Smallest 2x10 cab??

The GK MBE210 is relatively small and sounds very nice...
8-ohm impedance
400 watts power handling
Speakon and 1/4" input
2 - 10" neodymium speakers
Dimensions: 19-1/2"W x 23-1/2"H x 14-3/4"D
Weight: 30 lb.
 
Why exclude rear-ported cabs? It makes no difference sound-wise. And rear-ported cabs are smaller.
Because I'm always set up against a wall and as much as folks say they sound the same, my ears tell me different (I've owned a rear ported cab previously). I prefer front ported or sealed cabs. Whether science proves me wrong or not, I just prefer front ported cabs. That GK cab intrigues me.

I just want a small footprint 2x10 that can handle more than the 150w my Hartke can handle. I don't need a ton of volume. I just want to be able to turn up without blowing my drivers. My amps deliver 300w-375w at 8ohms. So I either upgrade the speakers or buy a lower wattage amp. I don't want to spend a lot of money on this.

I have the combo version of the GK MBE210 (called MB210) it puts out about 250watts to the 210 cab and also allows connection of an extension cab which bumps the amp up to 500watts. In the single cab 250watt mode the 210 sounds fantastic. Tight, punchy, tons of deep bass but still lots of definition , no farting out on this cab. It's ultra light and only weighs about 32pounds - not bad for a 500watt 210 combo. Because of the handle on the top, I can easlily schlep this rig with one hand and all my other gear in the other. I picked up the GK MB210 500watt combo for about $450 at GC a couple months ago. Thought about getting a 1x15 extension cab with it at the time but to be honest the 210 is loud enough I haven't needed any extension yet.

then there's no reason to buy a lower-powered amp!

just don't turn the one you have now up to the point where you start hearing Bad Things from your speakers and you'll be fine.

it's not like you could somehow get louder with a weaker amp turned up than a stronger one not so turned up (unless we're talking about all-out amp clipping).

if your current cabs don't get loud enough without starting to sound bad, a weaker amp won't help.
 
as for the isobaric thing, i tried the orange version, with two 10s in a box the size of a 1x10.

it had the power-handling and lows of a 2x10, but the overall volume of a 1x10.

Not trying to turn this into a cat fight (meow!), but if it's stuffed right up against the wall, you're right...it will sound different. But as long as you have an inch or two clearance, a rear port works just like a front port. Any differences you've heard in front vs rear ported cabs are attributable to the design of the cab and speakers and not port location. This is proven science...just pointing that out in the interest of education...feel free to disregard.

If you don't want to spend any money at all, simply turn down lower than the Hartke cab can handle. You kind of have unrealistic expectations out of a 210. None of them truly handle 400w, at least none that I've ever played through. They will start farting out long before you reach that point, especially if they're small and/or sealed.

That is why I recommended the 12/6, it can handle the power. If he doesnt need the volume then he should just go with his existing cab.

I owned an older ceramic driver Avatar B210. Rated at 700w. Got low and loud with no farting. Wish I still had it. Sold it to join the 'micro' craze!

The volume knob controls the amount of power that is sent to your cab. You can safely play with a 1.21 gigawatt head through a 210 rated for 200 watts as long as you have enough control on the volume knob. Use your ears, when it sounds like you are pushing the cab to hard, you are.

Having more wattage just gives you more headroom. I honestly wouldn't worry about it. Its fairly obvious when you are pushing a cab too far, and on a Jazz gig you aren't going to get to the volume where it would harm the cab anyway.
 
You might want to check out the Club 102.
