SMV extorted by Spanish Border Patrol!

I can guess for much of its written in this thread that USA people do not trust their law enforcers and they think that they are easily corruptable.

There is a Spanish saying that goes:

"Piensa el ladrón que todos son de su condición"

its translation is:

"The thief believes that everyone do his business"

Think about it

No, some of us are not foolish enough to think that corruption doesn't exist when in fact it does and there's no place in the world that's exempt from it either and that includes SPAIN.

Quite an assumption??? They are a group on a tour bus how would they not have a discussion about the video and the merits of placing the video on the internet for everyone to see?

By not having a discussion about the MERITS OF PLACING THE VIDEO ON THE INTERNET, that's how.
:D

Did Vic discuss putting the video up with Marcus? You can't do anything but assume the answer to that question, can you?

As far as anyone else on the bus, why would everyone care one way or another about the video going up? You really think there was a show of hands (;)) vote for whether or not to post it, I don't see that as somehow being inevitable. Far from it.

If I'm the guitar tech on that bus and no money came from me, that video would bear no reflection on me so why would I care if it went up?

'Course it is, but that doesn't give people carte blanche to post every kneejerk reaction on YouTube crying 'EXTORTION!!'.

it just makes the people involved look a bit silly.

Just sayin'.

I agree but people are not taking into account that what is on Vics iphone is a tool he used to record his experience and to assist him in his perspective of the events that occurred.

I do think there is corruption in Spain and I know many corruption affairs. Corruption in politics is unfortunately very very common in Spain, at all levels.

I don't think that no spanish policeman is corrupt, but the general impression is that they are not, as opposed to the USA where it seems that no one trust the law enforcers.

Maybe just because some of you are a little close-minded and don't try to understand european idiosyncrasy you see corruption and extorsion where europeans and specially spanish see a misunderstood fine charge.

By the way Jauqo, as I wrote in my earlier post I live in a very corrupt country and am fully aware that corruption is everywhere, but in this case, I just don't see it. Several Spaniards have been established how the system works in Spain, but it seems they're being ignored. Should we take Vic's word for it being a shakedown just because he's Vic?

Have you been to Western Europe recently by the way?

They are not being ignored is just that their explanation doesn't cover "pretending" a violation exists when it doesn't. This is why the occupants of the bus feel like they're being ripped off even if they will be reimbursed by the bus company. It's not really the money, it's the methods.

And what difference does it make if someone has been to Western Europe recently?

In the video there were at least two Europeans on the bus that thought they were being screwed too. Maybe the Americans used their mind control on them.

As you may have ignored - excuse me, i mean - read, the methods are perfectly legal. They see something they are not used to and think it is wrong instead of consider that it may be right in a foreign country.

This kind of attitude is called ethnocentrism.

Seriously, have you read the whole thread? This has been explained pages ago. German traffic law is not the same as the spanish one. The german crew thinks that the replacement driver can't be checked, and according to the spanish law, that is wrong. Do I have to explain over and over again that there is no european law for all the EU?

Your driver breaks the law, and he's prosecuted within the law of the land.

It's not extortion, folks. It's the law... the fact you don't understand / agree with it is irrelevant.

Crap happens.

I fully understand what is going on.

Vic has expressed that he was a victim of some sort of wrong doing.

Bottom line.

That's funny. Again, what about the Germans on the bus that said they were being screwed? They had warned that something like this would happen. Strangely enough, it did -- but only in Spain. They weren't shaken down elsewhere. If this is standard practice in Spain, then I can see why you would just accept it. It's easier than dealing with it.

Making up a charge and collecting money from it isn't right in any country, it's called corruption, what part of that don't you get?

I would base that on not knowing the spanish laws and language. Can someone count the times this has been said in this thread?

Is you failure to get the point because you are spanish or that english isn't your first language so you're having trouble understanding what's being written?
