Snarky Puppy - Michael League

If you haven't heard of them, Snarky Puppy is a REALLY awesome jazz group with a lot of gospel and funk influences. The bassist, Mike League, writes most of it and is a phenomenal bassist. Has anyone else seen him play with/without his band?

No, but I played a gig with their guitarist Chris McQueen a couple of years ago. It was a rhythm section gig for a big band. He was a really good player and a nice guy.

I've only heard a few of their songs. But I did talk to Michael League once several years ago. He is also a very nice guy and impressive bassist.

It's a POG and he uses flatwounds too.
I saw these on Friday. All of them are such nice guys.

Have seen them four times and it keeps getting better every time. If you have not heard of them, you will -- they are about to blow up. I can't think of a better band touring right now.

To be honest, as bad as this sounds, I was kind of burned out on live music for a while. Just had seen a lot, been playing too much. This band single-handedly re-energized my love of live music. They are amazing and I highly suggest buying their album(s) and checking out a performance.

Wow, did that sound like something from a public relations worker, but it's the truth!

Michael and the cats were just here last week. Great group and great arranging, I've been a fan for a couple years.

I had my first rehearsal today with the ensemble I run at Vancouver Community College. I've christened them "The Ground Up Ensemble" and we're only playing Snarky Puppy music! Michael and I have corresponded a few times, and he is really enthusiastic and positive.

I posted a thread a week or so ago with a video of them doing a Jaco cover. That dude can play his ass off and he's got some of the most awesome bass faces ever!!

They were here again a couple weeks ago with a smaller ensemble around 7 or 8, still killer material and top notch players!
