I like the look of Wishbasses. Very "driftwoody". Here in Oregon, some people collect driftwood off the coast and make sculptures and things like that. A Wishy would not look out of place among that stuff. If I had money to burn, I would buy a few Wishys and put them on my wall. I gotta admit that it's doubtful I would ever play them, though.

I read your review of the EUB, Aikiwriter. I ordered one (before I read your review) and I'm looking forward to it. He doesn't advertise them, but I asked him about an EUB and he sent me a picture of yours. I thought what the hell, and ordered one.
From the few reviews I'd read, I considered the fact that he doesn't put the best of hardware on them. So I sent him all the hardware (Pickup, bridge, ferrules, tuners...). He knocked a bit off the price for that. Seemed like a nice enough guy.
I think it's kind of telling that the only good comments on here about his basses are from people who own them. I'll post a review here when I get mine. I'll be as objective as possible.
To Wish's detractors, I can only echo DP's comment "If it's not for you, don't buy one". If you feel the need to so passionately slam another guy's work, then maybe you should take a look around your life and change a few things to make yourself a happier person.
Frankly, Wether or not I like the bass I end up with, I have to admire Wish. He does what he does in the face of all of your negativity (I'm sure he's aware that there are folks rabidly slamming him), and keeps a good attitude about it.

you've got to see the other side of it too, though. I started coming to this site to become more educated about bass. I feel like I've benefited immensely from the experiences of others.
If I asked someone about the quality of a product I was thinking of purchasing (which is where I came into the whole Wish scenario) I most certainly hope to get an honest, in-depth opinion. I would like the facts about what others have experienced, because there are plenty of basses out there I haven't gotten a chance to try yet.
Now that I've played a Wish, I have some experiences to share too. I've played quite a few basses in my day, I think I know what to look for quality-wise. I'm not out to bash the guy; more power to him for doing what he wants to do. But I think it's a disservice to not speak up about a subject if you have information on it.
I don't recall seeing anyone 'passionately slam' his work. If anything, most have wanted to do the right thing by trying one out to see what they're really like? Can't we share our observations after doing so?
I guess I'm a little troubled by the implication that anyone pointing out some of the more glaring flaws in a bass should change a few things in their life to become a happier person. I think that's quite a leap. Can't a happy person have issues with the construction quality of a bass and share those concerns with people who asked for details?

I really do like wishnevsky's basses. I think they are original and good looking, in a rustic sort of way. They inspire me to play weird, if i look at one, i think "jeez, i wonder what that sounds like" As a matter of fact, i sent my depsoit in december and my bass is nearly finished. So, there you have it, a wishnevsky liker. So sue me.
xush: Come on... In the other Wishnevsky thread there has been plenty of "passionate slamming".

Cool. My EUB was only the second he'd ever made. He said he had plans to build a bigger scale one, then one that was made for arco playing. I'm sure there are a lot of high-priced professional EUBs that might be better... but I've also played some that weren't as good. For the price, it was an unarguable steal.

Thanks for replying. I didn't really mean to slam anyone who has tried / reviewed Wish's instruments and posted honest criticism. I've read (on this site) reviews from four people as of today. Two liked their wishbasses (one said he'd make it his main bass), one said he bought an early one and found it unplayable and sold it the next week (may have been you...I don't remember) and I read one from John Turner today. I've heard John's MP3 and I have to say he sounds like a very proficient player. I really don't play or dig the same style of music, so most of his review of the sound may not apply to my tastes. I did however take notice of his comment about the pickup being skewed.
I don't agree that nobody has passionately slammed his work. There is a thread of about 300 posts which is mostly slamming his basses, and mostly by people who admittedly have never tried them. It's these people I was addressing. If you're going to review something, I'd be glad to learn from your experience. But I think anyone who needs to slam someone's work because it's popular to do, or because they don't like the way it looks must either have some growing up to do, or something in their lives that makes them very hostile.
