So who does NOT have a VT Bass?

You've been a member since 2009 and you've never heard of it? Where have you been hiding? :hiding: ;)

Also, I think you must be talking about the "huge size" of the Deluxe. Since it's creation, they've had a Version 1 (which I own), a Version 2 with a speaker sim, the Deluxe Version with 3 presets and an XLR out, a few class D amps (the VT Bass 1969, and now the VT Bass 1000) and now the VT Bass DI which is supposed to be hitting shelves this month I believe.

So yes... it is EXTREMELY popular to continue to expand on that circuitry.

It's been the generic pedal recommendation on TalkBass to fix any tone issue under the sun since its inception. I was griping about people generically recommending it years ago.

That said, it's a very good pedal. Either you have a use for it or you don't. It does Ampeg well. If you don't care for an Ampeg injection in your tone, you've probably got no use for one. I've made recordings using the VT direct (check my sig for examples) and have been really pleased with the results.

I originally bought it for a dirt, found it didn't excel for me as just that, put it aside for a year or so, and then brought it back and used it in front of my last amp for a good while. I'm not currently using it with my new amp, but I'm not letting it go either.

I have a BDDI which around here is like that VT pedal in that everyone has one. I don't ever use overdrive so I dont see much of a need to get the VT. That BDDI makes my crap ampeg amp sound amazing...... yet because I go mild on the blend, my tone doesn't sound all that "ampeggy" Kind of weird a BDDI into an Ampeg producing a cleaner modern tone but somehow it does!?!?!

I will say this, I love mine but it is the worst dirt pedal I have. It can get gritty. Sounding in a good way but turn the drive past 12:00 and it just farts out. Big learning curve with the VT. I should know I've had 3 or 4 now and hated it until about 4 months ago I really researched it and found out I was using it all wrong.

How are you using your then?? I'd like to know because I know you use those B7K's with yours. I do too. The only difference is I have one 7 and the regular VT, no DI or programmable. I don't use it for grit or dirt, just more tone shaping. Is that how you're using it. Cause I still can't find a great setting. Just an ok one. Maybe PM me. I don't want to hijack the thread.

I don't like the highs or the character knobs at all. It still has plenty of highs without them and a few other threads in here explain why not to use them. One guy matched up his with his 70s SVT and the setting I use are close to the same. The other setting in my Deluxe are close but with a touch of lows here or less mids there for slap. Even if it don't sound like a SVT I love it. And Live is where it counts and the VT sit perfectly in front of the mix like a recording. But remember I don't use an amp, everything is direct for me and I do love it that way so my pedals can shine and not be masked by the cabinet.

I still dont..after spending hours on this confounded fourum readin about it.
Just never had the "extra" money at the exact point Ive been craving it.
I DO still want one...however ....that darkglass Vintage Microtubes may be a lil more what im lookin for...as far as what I've read so far. But again..I dont neeed one..just want. So, I'll wait til opportunity meets preparedness..assuming that will ever happen. :hmm:

When I first tried it, I had never played an ampeg before, so I didn't know that I didn't like the ampeg sound. Luckily I got to try someone else's, and didn't have to spend my own money to figure out I didn't like it.

However, later on, I did end up buying the Tech 21 Leeds pedal, and found that I loved it. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford an actual Hiwatt.
