I'm constantly going back and forth between my VT Bass Deluxe and Tone Hammer. The Tone Hammer does 90% of what the VT Bass does, and a whole bunch of things it can't do. I use the VT bass when I want a slightly more edgy, clanky sound which it does in spades thanks to that gawkingly high upper-mid peak that is baked in and nearly impossible to remove no matter how far you dip the treble knob.
The Tone Hammer does a MUCH, MUCH better B15 tone than the VT Bass though. Since that's usually where I'm heading, that's why I use it over the VT.
Both are excellent pedals. I'm curious to find out what the new VT Bass DI brings to the table. I might sell my Deluxe at some point (since I don't need the presets really) and try out the new version. However, for right now, if I had to choose just one pedal it would be the Tone Hammer without question.
