Should be fine, of course rated output falls as the load impedance rises.

That was my doing. I was just pointing out that solid state amps AB2 amps can run happily into higher impedance loads. The headphones load was just an example.How did headphones get added to the mix? OP asked about cabinets.

Interesting idea but would you really gain anything significant by such a drastic drop in output power?Maybe the OP has four 8 ohm cabs (or eight 4 ohm cabs!?!) and wants to run them all in series from the same amp. That's one solution to the "way too many cabs but only one amp" dilemma.
The rated power would be less than if run into a 4 ohm load.What about Hybrid Amps? For example a hybrid Epipani amp with 4 ohms and a tube preamp running into a cab with 8 ohms?
