Seriously, to me, there's a point of diminishing returns for lightweight cabs. Going from 60 pounds to 30 pounds is revolutionary. Going from 30 pounds to 25 pounds is kind of....... meh. You shaved a few more. So what?

Agree, but sometimes that 5lbs can be a help.
Weight distribution can be a critical factor too imo.
Something with 2/3 of its weight in one half of it can be a right pita.
The old Marshall and some Fender Bassman amps I used to use were awkward as they were lopsided in this way

Well of course, you may be right; time will tell. However, It would be great if that's what they were going to do. I absolutely LOVE the GR cabinet design (although I have never played one). But I do know that they are light as all get out, so, could be. It wouldn't make me mad........

I have the ultra light GR 1x12. Damn thing sounds FANTASTIC and weighs in at 19 lbs. Just got home from a rehearsal with it, as a matter of fact

Just guessing to fuel the debate. "5" and "8" referencing two small drivers in a sub 10lb enclosure with a modular design that allows a matrix of them to be interconnected without exceeding impedance limits. Each capable of maybe 150W.

A 15%-ish weight saving is nothing to sneeze at, especially for a large array of speakers. Although to your point since so many performers are using PAs now, and instrument amps are used mostly for monitoring, rehearsal and recording, there doesn't seem to be a lot of urgency for fridge-sized bass cabs under 100 lbs.

Maybe this new product will be eight 5" speakers. Or eighty five 1" speakers.

If it's eight 5" speakers, Phil Jones beat them to the punch by decades. Seems like a lot of hype all for naught in that case.
