Song too long possibly???

Kids. "Thank you for your opinions, but as it seems you don't agree with me, I'll just do what I wanted to do in the first place".

Assumptions make an ass out of you and me, and since i'm sure niether of us would like that please don't.

I'm taking the advice. If it doesn't seem like that, that's unfortunate and I apologize. Because everything you're all saying i'm taking into consideration, and working with.

I've cut it down to around 3 min. and some 20 seconds. Intro, main line, other main line, outro. Simple, and hopefully effective.

Wow, you all payed attention and kept this alive! :D

It's completely 100% changed, and exactly 3 minutes long. Melodic, I guess. I put a lot of myself into it.

Talent show is next Friday, and I made the cut in auditions today!

I have one big issue though; myself. I don't know why, but I always think I do bad. Not "oh, that wasn't my best'.

But more like "Wow, that blew ****, why am I doing this again?" It's a massive self esteem issue, and I need some help over coming it. I don't mean to seem whiny, but i've got it practiced up and my gear all ready to go, my only enemy left is me.

Also a few other music acts, my buddy is doing Jason Newsted's My Friend Of Misery solo and another kid is doing a few things with his band.

Agree with the masses, 10 minutes will not hold their attention sadly to say, cut it down to 2 or 3 minutes tops and that would be pushing their attention span no doubt. And do not worry about the mistakes it is your piece and only you know what is right and what is wrong it in. The people in the crowd will be clueless do not beat yourself up over it. Think about it this way most of the people could not do what you are up there doing, they do not have the guts or the talent to put themselves in your shoes. So you are better then they are from the first note to the last! You are a musician, and when the smoke clears they will leave wishing they could have done that! Good luck and let us know how you make out RTS

Check the OP's latest post. You're running behind schedule here.

Bust out the solo to Stone Cold Bush off the Chili Pepper's Mother's Milk album...it's about 25 seconds long...and you will win that talent show.

10 minute Look-At-Me wank fest? Uh, no. Just no.

I am not saying the OP is Wooten, but I don't know that he isn't either. I saw Victor and he played a 15 Minute solo ... In that time I laughed and a little while later I cried, never in my life have I done that in such close proximity to each other. If he is good and plays with heart people will be captivated, if not they will be craptivated. Cheers.

Fame is awarded copious amounts of latitude.

You hear every mistake you make, and then you relive them in your head over and over again. For an audience member, the mistake is there, then it's gone ... that is, if he even hears the mistake in the first place.

Thanks man, that really helped a lot.

My main struggle is all the hammer ons i've put in, as well as a small bridge that would look like this in tablature:

----------
8---------
---9--7---
--------8-
----------

I'm starting to regret challenging myself with this, haha. Well the rehearsal is tomorrow, so I get to drag my full rig in for that. Friday is the big day, i'm starting to get nervous! :hiding:

Thank you so much everyone who has helped me with this and posted, i'd be getting bottled if I actually stuck with that ridiculous 10 minute piece!

Not sure if it's the right place, but:

Around February i'll be doing a solo bass piece for my school's talent show, to end my high school career with a bang.

Now, rests included and measures repeated, the song runs nearly 10 minutes...

Is this too long, do you think? It seems so natural and fluid to me now, since i've been working on it so long I can't tell if i'm taking forever and being a total bore. :S

What do you all think?

I once did with one of my old bands, after the set, a 30 minute funk jam. man that was an absoloute blast. since going onto the festival circuit now, them things dont really happen anymore.

It went great! My mom got a video of it, not sure of the quality but i'll upload it soon along with a couple pics!

I fumbled on that bridge piece I talked about, but no one noticed it. I got a good amount of applause, but didn't place as a "winner". I don't care, honestly. I put my heart into it, and just to share that with everyone was good enough for me. Once again, thanks to everyone who has been posting. :D

Way to hum, man! Congrats!

Here's a pic of me for now until the video loads up on my laptop.

Dad didn't have the right lens on, but oh well. :hyper:
