Songs requested with wrong title

I'd quit a band before playing that slap in the face to music and copyrighting. (Not talking about Werewolves of London)

Really? Personally I dislike all three songs, but that doesn't stop me from playing them. Fact is, 80% of the stuff i'm asked to play I don't care for.

I never really looked at All Summer Long as a slap in the face to anything. It's a "mash-up" song and a tribute to both songs. I like the concept of mash-ups, but don't feel this song is a particularly interesting one.

So long as such things are done legally and the original artist(s) get their proper credit and compensation I don't understand why anyone would be offended. I haven't heard of any legal drama over the song, have you?

I've gotten requests for "Situation Nowhere" (actually "Rush," from Big Audio Dynamite, which I have arrranged as a "trade 4's" mashup with BNL's "One Week").

The advent of sampling and using old licks to make new songs has been with us since the 80's, but we are now seeing young adults who only know the latter product. The "Sweet Home Alabama" anecdote from the first page of this thread is a classic case-in-point.

Most people have no idea that "Unchained Melody" is the name of a song. They think it is "Oh, My Love", "As Time Goes By", or "I Need Your Love" mainly because the words "Unchained Melody" are not in the lyrics of the song at all.

Of course, most people also think The Righteous Brothers originally recorded Unchained Melody. By time they recorded it, it was about the 17th version of the song.

Hmm...that was the working title so pretty understandable really - have a listen...

True, but the whole point of this thread is the wrong titles that people use to request songs by, and "Just 17" is a classic example of that!!.

My point was that, as a musician, my drummer friend should know the correct song titles.

If I'm subbing in your band I need to know what song you are calling (and in what key), but if I have to stop and "think *** is he on about", then we could have an issue :-).

can you guys play "Jeremiah was a bullfrog? (Joy to the World)....

But at least you knew he didn't mean:

Joy to the world,
the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King ....

I've been in a situation where the leader called "Joy to the world" and, when I queried it, he didn't mean "Jeremiah was a Bullfrog" - well it was late December (not '63).

Playing the wrong, "Happy Birthday", "Memories" or even "Copacabana" (although I knew a keytard who'd do that 'cos he was a PITA). Can get you in an awkward situation, see my previous post in this stream re: Happy Birthday!

Had a guy a few weeks ago request "Something's Happening Here".
It took me a few moments to realise what he wanted and I said, "Sure, we'll play 'For What It's Worth' ".
He gave me a dirty look and said "I ain't paying you s--t. Just play my damn song."

Later that same night, someone else requested "Ten Soldiers and Nixon's Coming".

Guy asks me at a gig last summer if we can play Koolaid by Led Zeppelin. I said I had never heard of it. He starts singing "you need koolaid, momma I'm not foolin".:D

Done a whole lotta drugs.....
Done a whole lotta drugs.....

I posted this before in another thread like this:

"Oh-ho-ho, its my dick!"

I think I hurt myself laughing at this one....
