Songs requested with wrong title

Two come to mind:

"Slow Cousin Walter"-turned out that the guy wanted "Smoke on the Water". Hearing him sing it after my telling him that I've never heard of "Slow Cousin Walter" was priceless.

"Runnning From the Noose"- This turned out to be "Bounty Hunter" by Molly Hatchet. This guy was a regular at our shows and never knew the title.

To British ears, the line from Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal"

- "Annie are you OK?" -

sounds to us

- "Annie are you Walking?" -

It was only when Alien Ant Farm's version came out a few years ago - and a DJ on a National radio station said "I always thought that line was ...." that I realisd it wasn't just me...

One gig we did get a hard time for playing:

Happy Birthday (trad)

rather than:

Happy Birthday (Stevie Wonder)

However, I wonder if most people realise that the Stevie Wonder song refers to Martin Luther King's Birthday being made a national holiday in the US?.

This of course brings up the "songs with the same title" issue. Anyone got any good ones?.

One that I mentioned earlier in this thread:

Memory/Memories..

Now most poeple used to mean:

Memeories, like the corners of my mind, misty water colored .... etc. - which is actually called "The way we were".
However, before that we have/had:

Memories: Take one fresh and tender kiss (sweet sweet, the memories you gave to me) by Perry Como.

And since then, Memory from "Cats" -

Midnight, not a sound from the pavement, has the moon lost her memory?, she is smiling......

Ask the punter for clarification before counting it off .... ;-).

Lotta younger kids at the bar I usually play. Once was requested to play "Sweet Home Alabama" so we played the Skynrd song. He said that was pretty cool but the lyrics were all wrong however we got the guitar riff right.

Turns out he wanted "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock

Wish we would've played "Werewolves of London" instead now. Woulda really blown his mind.

I'd quit a band before playing that slap in the face to music and copyrighting. (Not talking about Werewolves of London)
