And typically IMO they want to track bass 'raw' and process later, so they're not hogtied if they want to make a timbral change during mixing. But yeah, options are good, for sure.

I read your review of the 2DI4 yesterday. I'm hoping to have my Tantra in 1 - 2 weeks. Mike told me about it two years ago and I have been waiting and watching it's evolution. The funny thing is that his goal was simply to add a great tone stack and a power module to the DI but it kept morphing into what it has become. I look forward to having a great compressor and overdrive circuit on board. I also have become a fan of HPF's so not having to carry a seperate box will also be nice.

I wish that there were more powered cabs out there. I love my Barefaced BBII and am intrigued by the powered version and sub they offer. I recently asked Dave Green about some Fearless designs with a plate amp incorporated . He doesn't think there would be many people that would pay the extra money for a powered cabinet. I don't know which module he was thinking of because he was talking about an additional $1k to do it. He also said with the plethora of mini amps out there it wouldn't make sense. I would love a Fearless F110 with a plate amp for acoustic bass, upright bass and acoustic guitar along with smaller electric gigs. Mike Arnopol has a powered option available in his cabinets for $350. I think quite a few people would be willing to pay that as an up charge for other cabinets too.

Speaking of 2.67---one thing worth mentioning. We have found that the 1000 module doesn't need a fan. I slammed one for over a year---and many times into 2.67. No problems. But---when we had the case made we made provisions for adding a 80mm fan. If someone finds that they want/need one---it's a 10 minute job. The existing aluminum heat fins on the 1000 module are wayyy overkill.

One thing to mention---there are separate power switches for the preamp and power amp.

To call the 1000w Ice module STOUT would be an understatement. IME, whatever thats worth. Like... slamming it with OC2 sub-octave at a 4 ohm load all night long on a synth bass gig, and it didn't even flinch, and barely got warm.

I thought it silly that the pre is sold in Canada and amp in the US, as I was looking forward to getting the amp some day.

After meeting a musician of international renown, recently, who carries a small amp with him just for its pre — I'm reconciling myself with the thought of having just the pre and a separate amp (the very same as in the Tantra Amp, natch), we Canadians have extensive ICE experience.

Modular. It's the way to go. I'll keep telling myself that...

"Red Tantra Pre... Only in Canada you say? Pity..."

It's a bit hard to explain. They make the Tantra's in Vancouver and ship them to me to install the Ice module. If someone just wants the preamp---it's not necessary to ship it twice.

Really, I can't wait to hear some clips of this thing. I have no doubt that the preamp, poweramp and eq can't be beat. What Im really waiting on is the compresion and distortion circuits. Not too interested in the harmonic circuits but, maybe they are really special too. Get some good clips up and maybe I'll open my wallet.

Right now I'm expecting batch #2 in a week, so I should be less than 3 weeks out. That will shorten within a month---I hope to be able to fill orders immediately. There are rack-mount ears.
