I am also researching the role of temperature on the conductivity of sound waves through my system, and have a prototype of a system the injects thermal drafts into the cavity to affect the tone. I am calling it the Heated Oscillation Transference module. The complete system is called H.O.T. A.I.R. (patent pending).

I took delivery of Michael's Sonum Experior last week to test pick up locations for the "Rhiannon" build. After using it through two different rigs, a Peavey 15watt practice combo, and an Acoustic 370/106 I can say that there is merit to Michael's testing methodology. I was able to use the actual Lace Alumatone p'up and try it in several spots. My thoughts prior to using the Sonum were that the Music Man sweet spot would be the ideal location and that it should be wired straight to the jack or to the jack with a 250kohm resistor. It turns out that the resistor will be unnecessary. Also while I tried many locations, the MM spot simply works best with this p'up [for me]. Closer to the nut really muddied up the "B" string, however, moving toward the bridge caused less tonal change than I was expecting. Neither rig ever got "honky" or "quacky" even right down on the bridge. If you like the Jaco tone, stick with a "J" p'up [just sayin']. So using the Sonum has confirmed and validated my original decisions for p'ups' and p'up location. Now, just need to return the Sonum so Michael can move forward.
