Watched "In Cold Blood" ('67) on PBS last night. Quincy Jones handled the project and it really sets the mood for one of the most depressing films ever. Yeah, there's some bass.

The CHIPS TV show had Abe Laboriel on bass. For the chase scenes they would play the footage and he would improvise a part, (playing a fretless Music Mann
Sabre) then they would write orchestration around what he played.

There's at least one season of "In The Heat Of The Night" where most of the incidental music features really interesting fretless bass. I've wondered if that's Abe.

Yeah, I guess you’re right, although she did a fair amount of regular sessions for Q; but definitely a bunch for Lalo Schifrin, this one being iconic...

The soundtrack from "Bullet" has a very interesting bass line. It sound like it an upright bass with an electric over the top. This trick was popular with Brian Wilson as well.

Back in the 80’s I was in a music fraternity at college....I won’t mention any names to protect the guilty. One of my fraternity brothers had an extensive porn collection featuring single instrument soundtracks. The bass one was pretty funky IIRC.
