source audio c4

For the c4 (and any other 3-way switch SA pedal assuming they would also apply): Can the midi baby - or anything else - just do 1 button for 1 sound, meaning if you have 3 buttons you can have them just assigned to triangle/circle/square, instead of having to scroll up and down?
The MIDI Baby 3 posted above should be able to do that for sure without any other extra devices, though seems like an awful expensive option to only use 3 presets! Plus you’d still have to program the Baby on a computer to recall those three presets

So you would have to specifically program the individual presets to the mb3? You wouldn't even to just simply be able to say "this switch goes to triangle, this switch goes to square" etc regardless of which sounds are currently burned to those positions?

You would program MIDI messages for those specific preset slots (which are simply the first three preset slots on the pedal, 1/2/3 or in the case of control change values 0/1/2), depending on whether you wanted it to recall with the pedal bypassed or engaged you would send a CC#103 or 104 and value 0,1, or 2 for the first three presets.

I think I was able to locate the instagram video that @sunbeast referenced. I tried to link/post it below. I want to try and program this with the MIDI Baby 3, but need to look into just how I do that so that it cycles through the button presses/LED's on each button.

You can have the Morningstar controllers do that and more. With my MC6 I can program six different patches on a page, hold a button down and switch to another page to access 6 more. There are 30 banks I believe so I can easily get recall every patch on the C4. Of course, the Neuro Hub is required as well with the MC6.

So if I wanted to set up a setlist with <= 30 songs, and each song had <= 6 effect scenes stored on 2 neuro hubs, could I use this to create 1 song per bank with all the settings on all my SA pedals in each bank?

I'm working on that now. Curious, why 2 Neuro Hubs? Full disclosure, i know next to nothing about midi and this is my first real foray into this so I'm trying to gather as much info as possible.

I have the C4, EQ2, Spectrum, Aftershock and the Ultra Wave Bass (OMG I LOVE THIS Pedal).

I have the MC6, and the Neuro hub. ( For good measure i have 2 Disaster Area micro Ghosts and 2 DMC Micro's. Hopefully i can get this all to work :), i had these from a previous build, not sure I'll need them.)

2 Hubs is usually for 6+ pedals (since they only have 5 TRRS ports). I don't fully understand what other reason there could be.

awesome. Yeah, that’s my goal, to be able to hold all the scenes for each song in a way I can just select that group of scenes and easily switch between them. This makes me hopeful.
Yes, if you have multiple scenes for each song you could program each button to select a different scene, even momentarily if you would like. The editor program is very easy to use as well. You may be able to download it and take a look at the options available without having a controller attached. Note: I have no affiliation with Morningstar nor did I ever use MIDI previously but I like the product a lot and didn’t realize MIDI could be easy to use so I don’t mind recommending it.

2 neuro hubs possibly because I’m about to hit 6 SA pedals when the ultra wave gets here. I’m not sure how all this stuff works yet, I’m only assuming I need 2 hubs to control everything.

Actually, you could have direct access to 24 presets on a single page as each footswitch can have four different actions.

if you get clever with toggle positions, you could get access to 48 presets from just those six buttons.*

Using the second page basically doubles access in this use case. So single-button access 96 presets using a single bank.

*you’d need to have a button to perform the toggle so either you’d lose one button or one action. This is a case for using an aux switch plugged into one of expression ports as then you would have to make either of those sacrifices.

Just wanted to follow up on my MIDI Baby 3 post above for reference: I did get it to work! Disaster Area actually had a video for the one-button MIDI Baby that explains how to program it to do successive button presses with different lights (got to the 3:35 mark):

So, what I have now are three footswitches, each with eight available presets that can be recalled from the C4, for a total of 24. My plan is to make each of the buttons like a "bank" of sounds - so I will have 8 different synth bass, synth lead, and guitar effects (or pads or arps or whatever I choose), each corresponding to a different color displaying on the MB3.

What is cool about this setup with C4 Synth is that I can just leave the MIDI "as is" (finally), and swap in and out different presets using the phone or iPad app into those slots. You could even do more advanced stuff if you wanted, such as batching two messages at a time, including one to trigger HX Stomp to switch to the appropriate preset for your S4 patch. But I think I'll keep it as is.

One small annoyance - I haven't figured out how to turn the other LED's off after pressing a different bank to trigger, so the indicator lights are visually confusing. Disaster Area shared screenshots of firmware v9 last year, and if that ever gets released, it looks to have much greater customization over what is happening with the LED's. Still, given the relative low cost of the MB3 ($130 U.S.), the excellent connectivity with both DIN MIDI and USB MIDI (and USB Host on the latter), the customization options, extremely small footprint, and the two extension jacks to add additional footswitches or expression pedals, I think the MB3 is a pretty interesting alternative to going all out with something like a Morningstar and Neuro Hub.

We are in the same boat. I have 5 pedals but 2 hubs lol.

Really enjoying the C4 Synth, but I am finding as I play around with community patches that the note tracking accuracy varies quite a bit from preset to preset. Are there any tips for setting up the C4 Synth or individual patches to make this as good as possible?

From the manual, it indicates that you are to set the input at zero and then turn it up while plucking with "average velocity" until the LED flashes red. On my the bridge humbucker of my Strat, that seems to be around the 12:00 position, or what the software calls "105". However, my assumption is that you would then need to save that same setting for every preset, otherwise it will just be set to what ever the preset creator set it at when you switch patches.

Playing style is obviously also very important. Any type of legato or hitting a different string while the first note is still playing is a recipe for disaster. Any tips in that department - palm muting to kill a not before hitting a new one?

Finally, I wonder why it is that certain presets seem to track fine on certain strings, but will not track at all on higher notes (or track incorrectly). If I start a scale on the low E string and walk it up across the neck, the higher three strings will sometimes stop working as I proceed upwards in pitch. I assume this has something to do with many of the patches being intended for bass, though there are "bass" patches that track and sound great. Do you guys find that some presets simply can't be played on certain parts of the neck, or would adjusting the note tracking setting in the software be beneficial? Thank you!!!

Yes, you need to resave community patches with the input settings that work with best with your own bass. Remember, these patches were made by lots of different users with basses that have vastly differing outputs so it isn’t reasonable to expect that all community patches will work on your own instrument without some small modifications being necessary.

Yep, I like to think of it like salt / seasoning on a meal...adjust to taste.

Oh! I had one more Q about this just to expand on the idea. Can you use the MB3 buttons only to both turn the pedal on and off with the desired preset? like MB3 left switch = turn the SA pedal on with preset 1 selected, step again to turn off/bypass; MB3 middle switch = turn SA pedal on with preset 2 selected, step again to turn off; etc.
