Can either the desktop or mobile app show you the settings of the patch you're using? I burned a preset from the library to my first preset slot and I don't remember what it is. I'm also finding both my synth pedals to be so fickle (it's me, not the pedals) that I'm afraid to touch anything in order to find out if it can show the current settings of the preset I'm using. I really love that particular preset and don't want to lose it... I've been doing a lot to learn about the pedal and synthesizers in general but it's been a slow go so far.

It is possible to read back all settings on the pedal via the Neuro Desktop. One day this will be supported on the Neuro Mobile, but that work is not finished.

DUUUDDDEEEEE!!!! That's awesome! I can definitely hear it going in the very right direction. I imagine with a lot of dry signal this might be really close. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this!

Good luck with the house offer. I have builders changing our windows and doing new floor here right now and the main guy telling me it's gonna be much more expensive than originally anticipated. Classic. Once you buy that house it's gonna be like "Ok now we need to do this and this and then that and start saving for this and that.... poopie..."

Thanks! I think it's going to be a really good sound when I get it finished up! I'll take a look at the dry signal in the sound... I'm not hearing much dry in the synth bass part, but it might make sense as he does double quite a bit. Maybe I can assign the dry mix to the expression pedal.... hmm. Ideas!

We're still struggling to even just GET a house. We found out last night that we got beat out yet again. We offered $20k over list along with a couple other details, but the winning offer was $65k over. One of the houses we were watching went for $125k over list! Can't compete with that nonsense. It's basically a bidding war out here, and sellers know it.

You take requests? lol. It'd be for guitar anyway.

I've been known to take the occasional request! But unfortunately I don't play guitar. I tried to get into it a while back, but decided I like bass MUCH better. ha ha I'm also working on another Matt Johnson killer sound, from one of his Moog videos as well. (the keyboard player from Jamiroquai)

But if you point me in the direction of the sound you're after, maybe I could take a look. No guarantees on timing though!

Question 1.) I've got a similar setup to @fivestringgecko where I'm queueing my presets via the Midipad app on my iPad. Early on in the thread it seemed like in order to use the C4 with an iPad you needed to go from the iPad to the USB camera connector, into a DMC Micro.ghost, then into the C4 via the micro.ghost adapter cable. So I bought everything and doing it this way works great. I just don't really know what the micro.ghost is doing because from what I read later on in the thread, it seems like all I need is to go from the camera connector with a USB and then straight into the C4 (via the micro.ghost adapter), correct? What is the micro.ghost for? If I don't need it for this application (and I don't plan on employing and more midi pedals) should I hang on to it or release it into the wild?

Question 2.) I have an expression pedal hooked up (DOD mini) and it works, but I'd like it to be treated like a knob when it comes to presets. I want whatever parameter it is assigned to to be stored and recalled by the preset but overridden if I move it. Is this possible, and how?
Did anyone answer these yet? Sorry if I missed it. I can mostly take on Question 1, since I haven't used an expression pedal with C4 Synth (but suspect you could just set the preset up with whatever parameters you want as the "start" point, and then the expression pedal would override (similar to how the 4 knobs on the C4 work).

With iPhone/iPad, all you need is the Apple camera connector kit and a standard USB mini cable. The "Ghost Adapter" is basically Disaster Area's version of a "USB A Female to Mini USB B Male" cable. Theirs works, but so does the $5 one I bought off Amazon. It's just an adapter - there's no chip or anything in there.

BUT, if you are using an app like MidiPad on an iPad, you don't need a Ghost cable, or the DMC micro.ghost, or any of that. It's just iPad -> Camera Connection adapter -> Mini USB cable -> C4 Synth. It just sends a MIDI program change message or whatever you tell it to send, and the C4 will respond. For me it, worked, but was occasionally glitchy.

Then, of course, if you are using the Neuro app instead, you don't need any additional cable. Just the 3.5 jack out to the black cable that came with C4, plugged into INPUT 2. I use that to audition different patches from the community and then burn them to one of 16 slots I can access using my MIDI Baby 3 pedal setup.

I really appreciate it. I mean you don't really even have to try to replicate the sound in a patch (though that'd be cool and I'd totally appreciate it) since I'm guessing it's a simple enough effect in the synth world that you can probably just say "do this with this and do this with that" and it'll be in the ballpark. It's pretty atmospheric, but without the swell and sweeps those types of patches usually has. Unfortunately I'm that new to this that I can't even get those sounds right.

Thanks for the input! So you're saying the camera connector was occasionally glitchy? Or the micro.ghost? Sorry I'm not clear on what you were referring to. Glitches are something I'm trying to avoid at any cost! In addition to playing bass I'm the one calling the tunes in the heat of the moment and running the lights, so I rarely have more than one opportunity to hit a pad and have it fire the correct preset the first time!

As for the expression pedal question, I haven't been able to make it behave like a knob in preset mode in any way whatsoever. It's like it's always in WYSIWYG mode. Also it only responds when the Control Source is set to HH/X-axis. Do I somehow have a lemon of an expression pedal, I wonder?

I don’t think the Micro.Ghost should be necessary for use with an iPad, I’d assume it’s just like a computer and capable of MIDI through USB in itself utilizing the camera kit. The Ghost just MIDI interfaces for (non-computer) controllers that don’t have USB MIDI capabilities built-in.
That sounds like normal operation for the expression pedal- a standard expression pedal should only operate on the X-axis (the Y only applies to the Source Dual or Hot Hand as controllers, which are both capable of dual axis of control). I don’t think you can recall a preset where the expression is “bypassed” until you move it, but you can assign the expression parameters so that the “bypassed” value you want is either at toe or heel and make sure the pedal is at that point when you recall your preset.

To bypass an expression pedal couldn't you just set the maximum and minimum values to 100%?
That only works if the static tone you want is with whatever parameter set at 100%, which in a lot of scenarios probably isn’t the case. I believe the poster is looking for a way to make presets boot up with the virtual knob value in the Neuro software instead of where the expression pedal happens to be set for a particular parameter, which may require some extra MIDI messaging if it is possible at all.

With the caveat that I am not great at MIDI, generally, I was using the MIDIPad app to set up a grid of program change numbers to quickly switch through the presets burned into the C4. Because while the Neuro app is pretty effective at loading new presets into the C4, it only transmits messages, and does not have a read/receive ability, so you cannot really use it to access a "library" of 128 patches. To do that, you need some type of MIDI control.

On occasion, I was finding that certain commands I was sending from MIDIPad weren't actually triggering the PC. Or, they would put the C4 into bypass inexplicably, even though I was sending an "ON" command. It's probably just something that I was doing wrong.

Having not used a synth (or really any outboard effects) live before, I don't really have an idea of exactly how 'wet' I'll want each of my presets. So I'd like to be able to rough each one in at home when I can be in front of the PC Neuro app. Then when I'm with the band I could use the pedal to season to taste or fine-tune. Or really just the ability to be able to have the full range of any parameter available but not worry about heel down or up or in between.

Using the Neuro iPad app isn't ideal for me since I can't always rely on having internet access and having time to scroll through a vertical list isn't an option for me at all. That's why a Midipad is the ideal solution for me.

Just got the C4..The neuro app isn't working on my Android phone.. I haven't got a laptop or pc so I can't test it that way..I'm very disappointed as the only reason I got it was because of using it through the app on my phone..
How are you connecting your phone to the C4?

Have you calibrated the audio output within the neuro app?

There’s a possibility that the C4’s firmware may be older than the current app firmware. You really ought to try and get access to a Mac or PC (perhaps from a friend or a public library/school) so you can install the latest C4 firmware.

I'm connecting it to the phone with the cable it came with..I tried calibrating but it wouldn't work..
That's interesting about the firmware issue..I didn't think that would be a problem.. my brother has a laptop..can I access the neuro desktop editor and use it on a laptop instead of a pc .. thanks

Have you got the volume up on the phone, mute off?

Presumably you’re plugging the 3.5mm-to-6.3mm audio cable from your phone’s headphone out socket to the input 2 of the C4.

The firmware thing is worth a try as you may have a unit that was shipped to your dealer before the latest round of updates.

How are you powering the C4?

I use the app with my Android.... But there are so many androids.... Maybe you need to turn up the volume? Fwiw my phone is a pixel 2, Android 11, it uses that usb c to 1/8th adapter thing. Probably not at all helpful....

But also be sure that you plug the 1/4" plug to the second audio input.

As others suggested, make sure you are plugging the cable in input 2, not input 1. Make sure you try different volume levels when calibrating and also try with switching left/right channels (it's in the calibration options within the app). This, in my experience, can take many tries to find exact sweet spot when it registers. I also agree that the firmware needs to be updated and you will have to do this via Windows editor. I had some initial issues when it just didn't work with the Android app but now it's without a problem. Good luck!

Yes I tried it with the volume up and everything in between..
Yes I'm kinda hoping it is a firmware issue at this stage!!?
