source audio c4

I'm considering taking the plunge. Right now I'm running a Wonderlove with an Octabvre and Doom in the loop, and think I could save space and money by replacing all of that with a C4 and a small controller. Basically I want to have access to an OC2 sound and then MF101 and Mutron type filters to start. Eventually being able to have patches to cover synth bass sounds in a cover band set would be sweet, versus having to rely on combinations of an octave, fuzz, and filter.

What sold me, I think, is the cost and space that a variety of filters would take up.

For those of you with a C4 covering basic synth bass, OC2, and filters, what else is on your board to cover bases for cover type gigs? Distortion and modulation?

Three-piece cover band: I’ve got some generic patches, like Octave, Phaser, Tremelo, Distortion, Envelop filter, and a variety of Swells and Synth patches.

You’re definitely on the right track if your looking for top quality versions of all the above, in a single pedal space, with a midi switch. The only other pedals in my signal chain are Basswitch Sonic Spark (using as clean boost/EQ) and a tuner.

I had individual pedals for the effects above. Life is now simpler.

My Board consists of HX Stomp and C4. Stomp is not the cheapest option but does a lot of things and I can fit them both on a Pedaltrain Nano. Also you can use the Stomp to control the C4. To do this you need a MIDI to USB converter like the Source Audio Neuro Hub (v1 which is now discontinued can be bought pretty cheap online used).

Hub is not discontinued, just rebranded from soundblox to neuro.

This is what I did recently. I play in a few projects and got tired of lugging the big board for one or two sounds a gig. I have the same 3leaf setup and was able to get near the sounds I use from those pedals and from others. I went from 10 pedals to 3 + the DMC Micro controller. It's super easy to arrange the sounds in whatever order you want using the desktop app. I use a cheat sheet with each band so I know what sounds are where...

I still have a separate fuzz but probably could go without. I just like the sound of my Wren and Cuff Tall Font. Otherwise I have a tuner, comp, chorus, HPF and DI on my board. Bright side is you will probably come way out ahead selling those three and probably not notice much of a tone difference. I haven't done it yet but maybe look to add midi to quickly switch sounds for cover shows.

Can you move around presets in the editor?
Not drag and drop (it’s on the list of things I suggested) but if you have a free slot you can use the “save as” function to save to a new slot. So yes, you can rearrange, but it’s a bit more slow than just dragging and dropping.

Cheers..yea drag n drop would be handy..
A quick question..I have my C4 going into my stereo effects loop on my fender Rumble Studio 40 modelling bass amp. However my built-in stereo effect pedals are not in stereo but mono when I have this set up..Is there some setting on the pedal I should be tweaking or changing?. Normally I have had a stereo Flamma reverb pedal that I put in to the effects loop before I got the C4 and my built-in stereo effects on my amp are in stereo no problem..

There are two separate processor/mix chains in the C4, but you are able to (and must) configure the signal chain yourself. If you want input from Input 2 to go through a separate/independent signal chain within the pedal (ie true stereo) then you need to route it that way starting at the voices and splitting them to separate processors 1&2 and then splitting the “Mixes” section outputs with one mix going to Out 1 only and the other to Out 2 only. If you just want all the sounds sent equally to both sides, then just configure the output mixers in the C4 to output to both outs 1&2. I. Both cases also make sure the global “Output Balance” control is in the middle

Thanks for the reply but I didn't mean the stereo coming within the C4 itself..I meant the stereo coming from for example the virtual stereo pedal SIM that's IN my amp..(this is not within the C4 pedal or software etc)When I have this stereo SIM on while the C4 is connected to my send and return effects loop it's not in stereo..If I exchanged the C4 for my let's say Flamma reverb into the effects loop, the same virtual stereo sim within my amp IS in stereo..What gives,I don't understand why...I'm wondering has it got something to do with the routing options in the C4..it's on default..

Like sunbeast said, you must configure the routing in the C4. Have you tried following his directions?

Is this with the C4 on or bypassed? If you mean when it’s on, again it’s probably a result of internal routing of the C4 not being configured correctly (either having the Mixes both routed to only Output 1 or having the Output Balance panned all the way to one side for example- I think the default mix destination is generally “Output 1 Only”). The stereo operation of the C4 when on has to be configured to be so, particularly when using presets that were made in mono (a preset includes all the configured info including the Routing Options) with the exception of “Default Input Routing”, which is an option in the global Options section in the app and can make stereo inputs the standard

If it is when the C4 is bypassed, that is a head-scratcher.

Both..When it's on or bypassed..

That only works if the static tone you want is with whatever parameter set at 100%, which in a lot of scenarios probably isn’t the case. I believe the poster is looking for a way to make presets boot up with the virtual knob value in the Neuro software instead of where the expression pedal happens to be set for a particular parameter, which may require some extra MIDI messaging if it is possible at all.

I’ve sort of worked round this for my use of expression on C4, admittedly with my MC6 MIDI controller. I have expression on eg the filter frequency. When I move the expression it’s sweeping the frequency between the min and max values configured in the MC6. Then on release (ie no expression movement for x milliseconds) the MC6 sends a CC to reset the filter frequency to my normal setting
