source audio c4

Depends on the number of bits, but generally up to 11 messages at one time. Not sure how your getting C4 to react to multiple messages though, it and all of our pedals will ignore subsequent messages that are sent in close succession. Like anything under 500ms apart or so, have to ask jesse the exact amount of space the pedals like to see between messages. But I’d your sending a message dump of multiple CCs at once, it going to ignore all but the 1st.

The C4 seems to mostly cope fine with multiple messages but there was a certain group of messages where only the first was working. Your reply seems to account for this but I am surprised by this - what would be the point of having all this great MIDI functionality if only one message could be acted upon at a time? For instance, moving a sound up an octave would take up to four simultaneous messages as there’s no global oscillator pitch control. I’ve emailed Jesse about the behaviour I encountered and look forward to hearing back.

Can I have my Morningstar MC8 Midi Controller plugged into a Source Audio Neuro Hub (currently on order) that is also connected to my C4 and then connect the Neuro Hub via USB to my PC so I can edit patches in real time whilst using my MC8 midi controller? I need to be able to see what is happening with my Midi controller when I edit the patches instead of repeatedly disconnecting and connecting USB to the C4.

The reason I ask is that my Disaster Area micro.ghost does not allow simultaneous USB and USB Host functionality.

Works when I do it, though I mostly plug USB into the pedal I’m working on at the moment as opposed to the Hub but I have done that too.

MC8 isn’t a USB host so probably why it’s possible as opposed to ghost which is.

Since I'm relatively new to MIDI, why did you go with the MC8 over the Soleman (assuming that's what you did)?
I’d had a few recommendations from various people plus the Morningstar stuff seemed to offer the most possibilities for for what I wanted to do. (I have to confess that I’ve never used a Soleman.) I had an MC6 first and loved it and just after I got it the MC8 came out so I jumped at the chance of having the extra buttons and dedicated double-button presses to toggle pages and move banks, plus the TRS MIDI ports for Chase Bliss stuff.

I think Soleman is set for a revamp so I’d be interested in what that ends up becoming.

My focus was on trickery with the FI and the C4 and I’ve found the Morningstar allows me to do that. (Again I’ve never used the Soleman so am unaware of its capabilities.) @Gibs210 will be able more useful in answering questions about it than me.

@Quatschmacher Have you seen this video? I’m sure you have a nice system in place for navigating the MC8 but just in case you are looking for any other ideas this guy’s use of a Home Page was a revelation for me.

I’ll have a look when I’m on WiFi. I do use a sort of landing page which allows me to jump to different pages/devices.

Never used the morning star, from my understanding, soleman can do a lot of the same things as the mc6, but soleman seems to be more out of the box useable for basic things like patch changes and set lists. Pane mode of the soleman, is what the mc6 seems to be in most cases, custom midi control layouts for user specific uses. I have a looooong laundry list of ideas and improvements for the soleman, that started long before i worked for SA, Jesse has this lost now, along with additional ideas from other users. We’re hoping to do some updates, not sure how much will make it, or is possible with the hardware, we will see.

this has been the case since soundblox era, and I don’t think in the early days of one series, Jesse probably thought there was little use for multi midi message exceptance, since a PC change is more economical for this. Then came C4. :D

Wondering if there's a preset with some real synthy fuzz out there that someone has made (can maybe guess who it would've been), got the C4 on the way. Essentially looking for this from Discovery, sure I can get it with the rest of my pedals on top if needed but easier method would be terrific.

I'm posting this in case it's helpful for anyone else.

I have the following midi-enabled pedals (also the Dunlop DVP-4 plugged in to the Morningstarfx)

Morningstarfx MC-6
C4 Synth
Helix Stomp

MC6 and HX Stomp working together without issue (using midi channel 1).

In order to control the C4 via Midi, at first I tried the following:
MC6 - Midi out -> Midi in - Helix Stomp (midi thru enabled) -> USB out to C4 Synth

I could not get this to work. Tried diff channels etc etc.

The working config is:

MC6 Midi out -> Midi in - Disaster Area micro.ghost (on channel 2) -> USB Host out to C4
Disaster area midi-out -> HX Stomp midi in (channel 1)

In this case, the micro.ghost is set to channel 2 but the C4 is set to channel 1. The ghost always forwards via USB midi messages on channel one but can listen and midi-thru on the channel you select via the dip switches.

All works great.

Now I need to do some more config on the MC6!

Question!

Help please!

Hello!

I hope you're all well and OK during these crazy times.

I am the very happy owner of a new C4 Synth. Great pedal! (See my previous post above)

I use the pedal as part of a pedalboard that is controlled via Midi.
I am using the USB port on the back of the C4 to connect to my USB-MIDI hub (Disaster Area micro.ghost) which is being controlled by a Morningstar MC-6 II.

Is there any way to use the Neuro Desktop software to edit the C4 presets at the same time as having it connected to the USB MIDI hub and being controlled by the MIDI controller?

This would make programming it so much easier as I wouldn't have to keep unplugging and re-arranging cables.

For the Morningstar and HX Stomp I can use them while programming / editing with their respective desktop software and it works great.

Maybe I can use a separate USB Hub for the C4?

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thank you

Use the Source Audio Hub instead then you can connect via the TRRS cable to the Hub to the MC6 and also direct from C4 (or Hub) to your PC via USB.

I don't think there is a way to do this with your current setup, but if you use a 2-part cable to connect your C4 to the micro.ghost like the DMC ghost adaptor or something similar then its really easy to disconnect the female USB cable and swap in a cable from your computer (this is what I do with my C4). I think the only way to connect to a computer while also connected to a MIDI controller is by using the Neuro Hub instead of the micro.ghost, as the Hub doesn't use the USB connection on the C4 (not to mention that I believe you can edit the C4 through the Hub with your computer- could be wrong about this part).

edit- naturally @Quatschmacher beat me to it!

For those of you who were wondering how I achieved the C4 chord freeze, here’s the secret if you want to try it yourselves:

It’s twofold. Firstly to get a single chord to play regardless of which note you play, you need to decouple the pitch detector from input 1. So you need to send a MIDI message which switches the pitch detector onto input 2 (making sure you’re not sending any audio into that input unless you want some kind of side chain effect).

Secondly, to get the infinite sustain, you need to send (up to) four messages to switch voice 1-4 envelope source to off.

My method works best if you use two different envelopes for filter and amp, that way you can have the amp envelope sustain infinitely but still get some filter movement triggering each time you pluck.

You need to set up MIDI assignments for the five messages in the C4 MIDI map in the editor.

You can set up your controller to send the above messages on a press and revert upon release (momentary). Or you could set them up to toggle on alternate presses (latching).

As a further thing you can also send a message to disengage the filter envelope from input 1 to prevent filter movement during the freeze, but there are two problems:
It’s currently impossible for the C4 to simultaneously react to pitch detect input swap and envelope detect input swap. Also, at the point you disengage the filter envelope, the cutoff closes to the set value rather than the envelope completing its cycle.
