Wasn't accusing you of bashing. Just mentioning that he's worth checking out. He's insanely good, even if the genres he's known for aren't up an individual's alley. Some of the things he does on a bass are awe inspiring.

And while I do understand what you were saying about the traditional role of bass guitar in a band setting, I simply believe that other styles of bass playing still amount to bass playing. No hard feelings, just offering a different perspective.

IMO what Nathan is doing in the songs I have seen him use the HH is fine. It is the finished product that matters, not what an individual plays. It works for that genre.

I just got mine yesterday and annoyed my wife by neglecting all the adulting while myself and my 7yo son went down the rabbit hole of possibilities this thing has together. Tracking is outstanding, I would not have even purchased it had the competitor’s pedal been able to track like this. Got a few of Nathan Navarro’s patches burned in and am just waiting for the midi controller to arrive so I can dive in fully. Might need to take some time off work.

Recommended expression pedals anyone?
Favorite patch creators?

Tay86, Quatschmacher, and eldritch_tentacles are people I have downloaded some things from. Basically I think there are other interesting presets but I just download things that I can play something that sounds musical to me. You may feel differently about that.

I have a Moog EP-3 running into my Soleman and it works fine for sending midi cc through the neuro hub. It has a switch on it that changes between standard TRS output to some other configuration, so it would probably work with a 1/4th to 1/8th TRS cable straight into the c4. The SA expression pedal is probably a safe bet, albeit twice the cost.

I'd wager even a $20 Nektar expression pedal with a 1/8th TRS adapter would work, or if your midi controller has a 1/4th TRS input it would probably do the job as long as the midi controller allows you to assign the appropriate channel (ch. 100 by default) Though you might opt for a mini expression pedal for more pedalboard real estate.

The pedals, the neuro hub, and the Soleman all have an expression pedal calibration tool in the desktop editor as well. So finding something that will do the job shouldn't be too hard.

*edit* went back a page or two and saw you mentioned the DMC Micro, and reading the manual, I'm thoroughly confused on how to properly setup either a tap tempo or an expression pedal using the multi-jack on the DMC Micro to a specific CC# that you can assign on the c4, but plugging a 1/8th TRS into the c4 should work for expression input if the DMC Micro doesn't allow for this.

Looking at the specifics for the Eventide H9 in the DMC Micro manual might be a clue, that expression output is assigned to CC# 48, and tap tempo is assigned to CC#44, so you might be able to set the c4 to CC# 48 and use the multijack on the DMC micro for expression control, or plug the exp pedal into the c4, and plug a single switch for tap tempo into the DMC multijack, set the c4 to CC#44 for tap tempo control, since the H9 allows for changing the CC#, which the c4 is capable of as well. But I could be mistaken.

IF you end up with multiple SA pedals and a neuro hub, the neuro hub has expression input as well.

Here’s the Moog version for comparison. I think I got this pretty close. The C4 doesn’t quite have the subby low end but it’s not too shabby. I might see if the EQ2 can rectify that.

Any idea how to get an expression pedal connected to a Morningstar MC8 to operate the C4? Midi channel 1, CC100 value 0-127. It works great with the stereo cable connecting the expression pedal with the C4, but no luck so far via midi.

How are you sending signals from MC8 to the C4? Via Hub or via something which goes into the USB port.

If you copy your MC8 bank to bank 28 and back up that single bank (28) you could send me it and I can look at it.

I've tried both, 1. Through a Disaster Area micro.ghost and 2. Direct via the MC8 USB Port. Neither work.

The MC8 is definitely sending the CC100 midi message as I've used a midi monitor to log activity.

I think its the C4?

I’ve just woken up with a cool idea.

Those of you who follow the FI thread may have seen that I came up with a way to play five-note II-V-I progressions which have all smooth voice leading which changes depending on which direction the roots move (up a 4th/down a 5th). I’ve just thought of a way to get the voice leading to work on the C4’s harmoniser using my MC8. The 3rds and 7ths will be straightforward; the 5ths, 6ths and 9ths will be trickier but I think I can do it.

I think I’ll be able to do my chord inversions idea too.

Annoyingly I’m going to be busy with other stuff all day so probably won’t be able to get to it until tomorrow or Monday.

I just got an Aftershock and I'm loving it! So, now I'm very interested in the C4!

Could the C4 replace my MXR Bass Octave Deluxe and MXR Bass Envelope Filter?

Based on what I've read, the answer is 'yes'. The C4 can do everything the Spectrum Intelligent Filter does and there are community presets to mimic the Boss OC-2.

If someone could confirm my suspicions, I'd appreciate it!

I recently received a C4 and want to get into editing it. However, when I downloaded the editor software from the Source Audio site, and tried to open the download on my Mac, I got this error message below. What do you more enlightened folk make of this?

Macs don’t allow non-app store apps to be installed by default so you need to make an exception in your security settings.
