Youtube is also a great resource... I spent a lot of time there searching "synth tutorial" and the like, and got a good understanding of how synth works. A lot comes up for keyboard or modular synth, but a lot of the principles transfer over.

The latter half is a lot of synthesis for drum sounds so may not be of much practical use for bass playing. The Ableton link is really good and immediately understandable. I have to revisit it to get a better grasp of ADSR

@movinngruvin has kindly lent me his 3 LEAF AUDIO Chromatron. Been wanting to try one for ages as I used to own a Wonderlove and it was great for putting octave and fuzz in the loop to create synth-like sounds. The Chromatron is even better I feel, as it works much better as a stand-alone envelope-controlled filter than the Wonderlove did.

I put my EMMA electronic Okto Nøjs in the loop and dialled in the following sound:



Movinngruvin asked if I could replicate this on the Source Audio C4. I’ve had a crack and got in the ballpark and have shared the presets on my Neuro feed:

I’ll port these onto the Spectrum too, though they won’t be exactly the same. The octave distortions in the Okto Nøjs are slightly gated and I have achieved this on the C4 by assigning an amp envelope to those voices and using the envelope’s gate control; the Spectrum doesn’t have the ability to assign an envelope to the voices so the patches will be a little noisier.

Thanks folks. Yes, I started using the prefix QM on my patches for a couple of reasons:
1. Where a patch is based on another specific pedal or specific sound that others are also likely to make a version of, it helps to distinguish authorship.

2. I noticed that whenever you download another user’s patches into your own library, the creator’s name gets replaced by the downloading user’s name, so adding those initials means users can keep track of who created the patch.

Having said that, there isn’t always space to preface all my patches with those initials as some of my titles are really long and would not be fully visible in the editor window but hopefully those are distinctive enough to be recognisable.

I’m glad to hear people are enjoying my patches and it’s nice to hear examples of how you are all using them. I guess the ultimate thrill will be hearing them on a record (or a gig if they ever happen again).

Late to the party, but I picked up a C4 the other week and holy humbuckers, that thing is amazing. Thanks so much to Source Audio for making such a great pedal and to the community for all those sweet patches. May share a couple of my own after I get a bit more comfortable.

Been looking at various synth pedals for a while, but it was that amazing deep dive by @Proton Lenny that really sold me on it. Well, to be completely honest, it was the Blade Runner Brass that did it, hahaha. Thanks Zach .

(By the way, is that just heavy reverb on top of the Blade Runner patch, or some kind of added delay as well?)

You’re going to love it. The brass patches are at the simpler end of what this beast can do.

By the way, have you tried using the Going Through The Motions patch with the tone rolled off on your bass? I probably had my bass set that way when I created it and it transforms the fuzz - you get less sizzle and the octave up comes through more prominently.
