Source Audio EQ2

The new patch makes an expression controlled Low Pass Filter a lot easier to dial in. I've uploaded to the Cloud GMC Low Pass by Gazzajgaman for an expression controlled Low Pass Filter. I've set the filter to start at 120hz, which allows for some subby bass to pass, then push the expression pedal and the filter opens all the way out to 15Khz. Band 10's frequency is the main sweep, currently set to 120hz, so adjust to taste. If you pull Band 10's frequency to 20hz...it pretty much cuts everything audible.
 
Oh great. Yet another thread to which I need to subscribe. :laugh:

I'm very intrigued by the amount of control this pedal appears to give, although I'm not really keen on tweaking controls for live work in real-time. I tend to like devices that are easy and quick to dial in; set and forget. I may not use more than a small percentage of what this pedal can do.

I envision using one channel as presets for the different EQ curves, and the second channel to tame (or sweeten) certain frequencies for a given venue without having to alter my presets (thus allowing me to keep them as a reference point or baseline).

Does that make sense, or am I missing the point of this device?
 
New, big EQ2 update going live today. New features and revisions include:

  • New Low Pass Filter mode. In the Neuro editor dropdown menu for band 10, you can now select peak, shelf, or low pass. The gain slider is inactive for Low Pass mode, Frequency and Q can be adjusted.
  • Extended range on the input high pass filter. Goes up to 250 Hz. Previous maximum was 80Hz.
  • Channel Output Mute switches added – allows for additional options of muting the channels with external control or MIDI.
  • Q Scaling Mode – added feature that will scale the Q factor of a filter with the slider gain. The result is that the Qs become a little narrower to limit the overall additive gain with multiple adjacent bands of boost or cut.
  • Improved communication scheme with Neuro Desktop. It reduces USB traffic by only reading back the pedal data when something changes. Also speeds up the response when changing something on the hardware and how it’s reflected in the editor.
  • Default Tuner Input hardware option – new hardware option for default tuner input. When using the input switch mode, the tuner selection changes automatically. This sets the value that everything goes back to on power cycle or preset load.
  • Added MIDI CC for tuner input selection.
  • Cascade routing mode – additional routing mode, mono in, mono out. Input to channel 1, channel 1 directly feeds channel 2 which goes to the output.
  • New Hardware Option for “Quick Access To Freq and Q with Encoder Push”. Makes on-the-fly adjustments to Frequency and Q quicker with just the encoder knob, not having to menu-dive. Usage example:
1. Select a band normally (push and turn)
2. Click and release the encoder, the frequency of that band will now be displayed.
3. Edit if you want, then press the encoder again
4. Now Q is displayed for that band, edit and press the encoder again
5. Display goes back to normal view
  • New Hardware Option for “Preset Switching Mode” – Previously, on any preset change, the audio paths would switch to a unity bypass while the new settings were being loaded. This was meant to avoid pops/clicks or other artifacts that could arise with dramatic changes in the EQ settings. Especially when switching between Series and Parallel filter configurations. However, it resulted in an 80ms load time for new presets. This can be configured by the user now with three options:
1. Always Bypass – prevents pops and clicks in any case
2. Never Bypass – load time is minimized to 20-25ms. Pops and clicks are possible.
3. Bypass On Config Change Only – bypassing will only be used when switching the filter configuration. Load times will vary depending on preset settings.

This is great stuff. Now would we need upgrade the firmware and use a new GUI, or is it just a new GUI that was written to access and manipulate all the extra things that are now manipulable?

Feel free to tell me go away: I'm going to do that annoying thing, after you've just done a big update, which makes it seem like I'm not appreciate (not true, I'm over the moon) and request something for next time:

I use EQ2 in a looper setup, so the pedal is always on no matter what. I'd love the option to make preset switching the primary downstroke (or upstroke) of the switch. This way, I just have to tap the switch to change presets, and never have to worry about EQ2 turning off or if my hold-length is too fast or too slow, or having to go "around the horn" if I don't take my foot off in time. I know you have lots of external switching options, but this seems like a simple one that would be of utility to the looper set. Thanks again! Great update.

Did you update the editor?
That's weird, after I launched Neuro once the installer had finished (from an app launcher, not directly), it opened xx.xx.26 instead of xx.xx.32 for some reason, which I think should have been moved to Trash, which I didn't think was even possible. I quit it and found the new one and double-clicked directly and the right one opened.

TL;DR: Pilot error

I can see the utility, but also the risk.
Jesse and I are not generally fans of reassignment of the bypass switch. I can't off the top of my head think of a pedal where we have done that. The general thinking is that it needs to be a panic button. If you mistakenly have a preset with infinite gain of some kind of wrong loop, you want a kill switch ASAP. While we try to be open minded, this one worries me.

Amazing. This is huge. The EQ2 remains of the best pedal purchases I’ve ever made and this just sends it to another level. You all are rocking it

@rsmith601 running into a snag with the tuner input stuff. Can you ask one of your wizards to illustrate how input switching and tuner engagement is supposed to work ?

Working with the new update
Have Tuner Enable/Disable assigned to CC 83
Have Tuner Input Select assigned to CC 84

I have 2 presets
1 - Input 1
2 - Input 2

EQ2 is on Midi ch 4

Channel switching works via sending PC
0 - for Input 1
1 - for Input 2

Tuner engages on Input 1 when I send PC 0, CC 84 0 and CC 83

When I send PC 1, CC 84 1 and CC 83. The tuner is still reading Input 1.

For grins, I also tried using Cc 84 2 to set the tuner input to channel 2 just in case the 0 offset didn't apply... no dice.

Both patches are set to Stereo Input, Mono Output

I wish there was a switch matrix in this pedal where I could connect the lines between everything to design signal flow. I want to chain both EQ's and drive 2 amps (or 2 of anything) using both output jacks with the same signal that is outputted from 2nd EQ when in series mode.

Why do you want to stack two ten band EQs right next to each other? There is no tool that can show the overall response curve. Otherwise, mono in stereo out would seem the best routing option to drive 2 amps.
 
I haven’t had a chance to dig through this whole thread but am getting ready to rewire my pedalboard.

Is it possible, when using an expression pedal with a loop switcher to set the EQ2 so that patch changes remain at the patch specified volume regardless of expression pedal position ie volume only changes from preset level when the expression pedal moves?

Just because I wanted to, to see (hear) what it would do.
I know this may not seem logical, but adding routing options adds cost and complexity to all aspects of our product development and then to each firmware update. All routing options must be tested in a variety of situations to ensure they work. On Ventris we offered up an insane list of routing options to try and cover everything (its like 20 pages of the manual). It was a nightmare and it turns out many of those were never used (despite the fact that they were asked for). After that experience we decided to cover all of the most important routing options and only add more in firmware updates when it was clear they would be useful. The ability to put the tuner on another channel is a recent example. We are trying to do our best to address all of the special requests we get without putting ourselves out of business. Hope this seems reasonable! :)
