Source Audio EQ2

I know this may not seem logical, but adding routing options adds cost and complexity to all aspects of our product development and then to each firmware update. All routing options must be tested in a variety of situations to ensure they work. On Ventris we offered up an insane list of routing options to try and cover everything (its like 20 pages of the manual). It was a nightmare and it turns out many of those were never used (despite the fact that they were asked for). After that experience we decided to cover all of the most important routing options and only add more in firmware updates when it was clear they would be useful. The ability to put the tuner on another channel is a recent example. We are trying to do our best to address all of the special requests we get without putting ourselves out of business. Hope this seems reasonable! :)

Of course what you say is reasonable, I totally understand. At first in the pedal I had the one 10 band set with Q=3.0 on all 10 bands and highest freq was 500. This is what I play through all the time. Then I wanted to see what I might hear if I added the other 10 bands in series starting at like 700 up to 13k so thats why I asked. In the end I realized that in the 1st 10 bands I was using, I was NOT using 4 of the bands as they were set at 0, so I re-arranged my bands, consolidated and added 4 more using the higher frequences but all within the 1st 10 bands. It worked out fine!

I'm thinking about using this live as a preamp for switching between 2 basses (both passive). This way I can use one signal path and simply switch presets. FOH can work everything else out. Anyone have any words of wisdom before I pull the trigger?

I know it's been asked before, but just wanted to verify if this will work?

Ok, disregard the routing in my photo.. What I'm trying to achieve is put the EQ2 (ch 1) at the end of all the dirt pedals (inside the loop of LS-2) then put the EQ2 (ch 2) after the preamp pedal / end of my chain --> amp.

Routing will be "split" stereo in/stereo out.
That should work, you may need to use the X routing method shown in the manual, but that’s only if you use external loop routing.

thanks. one more thing, the paragraph and the diagram for ext. loop routing doesn't seem to coincide.

the diagram shows that output 2 (send) - - > ext fx - - > (return) input 2, but the paragraph says input 2 and output 2 is "send" and "return" (respectively)?

Guitar > input 1 > output2 to ext effect(s)(send) > input 2 from ext effect(s)(return) > output 1 to amp/next pedal/etc.

External loop routing is for when you want the EQ2 to control an FX loop, it allows you to bypass the FX loop when the EQ2 is bypassed or switched to mono mode. That isn’t the routing you want, you just want the normal Stereo In/Stereo Out like you originally planned.

Yeah, I realised that when I bypassed LS2 (EQ2 in 'external loop' routing, EQ2 won't get signal from its input 1 - send (output 2)
 
do you think using it this way will create a parallel wet/dry output (like using the LS-2 in parallel mode) or does it make the effects run in series with eq1?

I don't own this unit, but count on buying in the future, so I have read the manual to research what kind of features it offers, and as far as I remember you would be able to set it to work either way, the two signal paths either in series or in parallel, also note that using Input/Output 2 as a parallel effects loop would allow you to run a separate 10 band equalizer customized exactly to your wishes that will only affect the effect pedal in the loop, while you could run another 10 band EQ with completely different settings only affecting the parallel clean signal.

Meaning that the EQ2 also will function as a very powerful effects loop mixer/switch pedal, since you will have a separate fully customizable 10 band EQ at your disposal for both respectively your effects loop and clean/2nd effects loop signal.

Also means that if you don't need the stereo feature of this pedal you actually effectively get a fully customizable 20 band equalizer, by running the 2 seperate signal paths in series, or if you should wish 2 independent 10 band equalizers that can be run and mixed in parallel, opening up for even further tonal options (2 10 band equalizers in parallel that freely can be mixed and adjusted/customzied independently will give you much more potential control over your tone than a single 20 band (in this context 10+10 bands in series) freely customizable equalizer would).

The possibilities with this pedal is mind boggling, simply the best and most versatile equalizer pedal ever produced, hands down, miles ahead any competitors on the market.

Thanks so much for your reply that’s exactly what I was hoping it could do and have a high and low eq’d paths, combining back to parallel. You’re right, it’s such an amazing pedal when you think about the options like that.
