The CDP takes a bit more time and skill to dial in a great tone. The 2 drive knobs are not for everyone. This made it a bit more challenging for many users, so we tried to make it really easier on the OFD. As Johnk noted, it is hard to get a bad sound from the OFD.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of the BJEF Blueberry - and the version you built me has become my go-to overdrive. The Blueberry (and I assume Honey Bee) just has a sound to it, a grunt that I dig. I've also found that I like turning the drive off on the Blueberry side but ramping up the volume to push the Submarine side into a more transparent breakup. Neat.

I can see why you didn't dig the B3K. It colors your sound as much as any OD and in a modern, scooped way. Pretty far from your vintage tone. It's great for a guy with rounds playing modern hard rock or metal but not so much for gritty, tube-like warmth.

I'm a bit surprised you didn't dig the Vintage Microtubes. I wish it had more gain on tap but it strikes me as warm and natural.

But neither of them hits the spot for me like the Foundry so I think I'll put both Darkglass pedals up for sale.

Just goes to show how personal tastes are for things like overdrive, fuzz and envelope filters. I think the Darkglass stuff is fantastic, just not for my sound.

I actually haven't tried the VMT yet, so it's still on my 'want to try (or buy) radar', but I have a feeling that it's more suited to what I like in an OD than the that I had B3K was.

Oh, okay for some reason I thought you tried both.

I agree, I think you'll like the Vintage more. Great for a more natural, warm OD (and definitely more mids than the B3K/B7K) but I wish it had more gain.

It definitely does have some of that same flavor and fine grained texture. But because it's warmer and less sharp/scooped I think you notice it less when mixed with the clean blend.

just for the heck of it, I got out my 3BOD and in about 1 minute got my OFD to sound pretty close to it.

for simplicity's sake, the BBBOD's settings were all at 12 noon. here's a super short clip of them.
the order of the clip is:
bypassed, then the 3BOD, then the OFD, 3BOD, OFD, 3BOD, OFD.



IMO, if I would've spent a little more time, I think that I could get it to sound almost exactly like the BJFE.

I want an OFD now. Waiting on another potential purchase. If it falls through, I think I am ordering an OFD. Those sound clips are really good. I may need a separate board just for overdrives.

Just received it today....I'm not a knob twiddler so I almost had a panic attack at first...lol...but you can really get any dirt you want out of this pedal....I prefer a set and play od and I think it's going to take me a while to finally find "the one"...so many choices....but I prefer light OD.....still trying to figure out how the tone and EQ knobs interact with each other. A bit confused with the Tone Shape, apparently the T, M and B can be set independently? So far I've only tried it by itself and will hopefully have time tomorrow to put it on my board and see how it interacts with my other pedals and find out which one gets sold (BB or VMT or both)....I'm also waiting to get a Tone Hammer pedal and see how they go together......trying to put together a very small board with only tuner, OD and preamp for when I can't use my rig. But so far I like the OFD with my GK MB500....just those 2 alone give me 6 different sounds

The tone shape is actually simpler than you are thinking.

The bottom right knob is a cut/boost control. What it controls is whatever light is currently lit beside the "tone shape" button. So, you have a three band eq acessible for every preset. If you want to simply get back to flat, press and hold the tone shape button until it blinks and you are back at flat.

The OFD is actually pretty simple compared to some of the other SB2 pedals, the controls are much more straight forward compared to something like the Orbital where one knob controls six different controls.

Yeah, so far, I think it's pretty simple to use. You just have to get the hang of the various knobs, especially if you are used to more classical analog pedals.

After just one evening with it, I have the BBOD setting dialled in on one switch and the other switch is used to store a power stage based super low gain OD that just makes my phil jones briefcase sing. Gives my SFX Micro Red Dragon a run for its money.
