I have both and the Manta is more flexible, having both a clean blend and on overall output volume means even some extreme filter settings can be used. It's a little more difficult to dial in, but worth it, and with the presets once you have something good you can save it. The MXR is kind of a one-trick-pony as far as an EF, just bandpass with an upward sweeping filter. Good trick, but the Manta has dozens, if not hundreds, of useable tones in it.

By the way, I may have been misleading about something. I will clarify:

Press and hold OPTION on the Manta with effect engaged: this takes you back to neutral settings on parameters. These knob positions will be the same for each effect.

Press and hold the OPTION button on the Orbital, and you will get the knob positions that we think sound good and are a good starting point for each effect type. These knob positions will not be the same for each effect.

Why is it different on these two pedals? The filter effects are generally in the same basic family on Manta (with the slight exception of the phasers). However, the Orbital effects can be quite different and a neutral knob setting might sound good on one effect and less good on another.

I tried it again. It definitely happened under condition (1). I didn't even try (2) or (3). Is there a problem with my pedal? Do you have a fix? Do I need to send it in if I don't have a Hub?

When I have a preset engaged on my Manta and I hold down the option select for three seconds it will bring all the options back to default, but as others have said, the Effect knobs select will do weird random things with the lights and skip around from three to seven when I try and move it back to the preselected spot, then the lights will double up and so on. When this happens I don't save the preset and turn off the power. Then things go back to normal. I suppose this a fixable bug, but I dont have a Hub to connect to.

You guys are right. Sorry about that. As Jesse investigated why this was happening, he discovered it can indeed happen at other times.

There are three things to do about it:

1) If you cycle through the control options, this will prevent it from happening.
2) You can power cycle the pedal as noted to clear it.
3) You can update firmware by either the hub, or sending the pedal to us. The updated firmware is NOT up yet. This will take a few more days.

Very sorry about this. It is amazing we did not catch it considering all of the testing which was done prior to shipping this pedal.

That's a good point, I didn't actually check if it reset the options, I was too freaked out by the fact that the mode knob was jumping around like that.

If you call/chat them they will apply it to almost anything, even "excluded" brands (which, in the past, SA has not been an excluded brand).

Hey guys.....All the love for the OFD around here, along with the samples I've heard, has me thinking about buying one and potentially ditching my Barbershop. I do have a question though and I was hoping someone who has used it could help. I really like having a very transparent overdrive as an option. Has anyone created what they would consider to be a transparent patch for this unit and if so would you mind sharing your settings? I've found that the Barbershop excels at this but I'm in need of a gated fuzz as well and maybe a more saturated OD as well.

You can definitely achieve a light, transparent-ish drive. With the EQ controls, you can pretty much dial in something totally flat (which for my amp, is not necessarily flat on the OFD, you gotta do a little digging). That said, I'm a really big fan of my Barbershop, I think it does something unique that I haven't heard in any other pedal. I would say if you can keep the Barbershop and grab an OFD (for your gated and saturated tones), do that. That's your two presets. If you end up finding a transparent drive that can replace the barbershop you'd need to go with a MIDI hub setup (two get more presets) or get another OFD!

Hey something just popped in my head. Forgive me if it's been intended this way or if it's been said before.

I really love the aesthetics of the SB2 line. So much that I've had my ofd for a bit, love it and haven't even slapped velcro To secure it with BUT I was just thinking the tiny drop between the knob area and the preset select switches are would be perfect for some black zip ties to secure it neatly. What do ya know, they fit great and look fantastic. Though I'd share.

OK, now I remember. Knob position recall was added to the Pros late. On the Multiwave we still had some code space left to do it. On the BEF Pro we had no codes space left at all. Therefore, it is not supported. Sorry!

I love my OFD, it goes great stacked with my Barbershop :)

Speaking of stacking the OFD, I used to stack my OCD with my ODB3 all the time. Now I'm stacking the TS9000 with the ODB3 and I don't get quite the same result. It sounds pretty compressed, almost like it's choking itself out. Not sputtering, but it's very dirty yet squashed. Any suggestions on how I could possibly open it back up to where it was when I stacked the OCD and ODB3? Hopefully I'm making sense.
