Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

so I was able to update the hub (on a mac) eventually.
saved the hex files to the desktop, installed them, got failure notices on the updates for the orbital and manta, but OFD seemed to update.
The hub manager shows all 3 pedals with the latest firmware, but now my orbital and Manta no longer respond to scene changes.

Sounds like my experience. Good to know I'm not alone. I'm hoping the resolution lies in the MIDI Channel stuff @ncabral was talking about.

Okay. Well, there's really good news, but also a (smallish) complaint.

I was able to resolve everything by digging into this MIDI channel issue. Everything is working now, allegedly on the latest firmware. My panic is over; I understand what's going on now and my issues are resolved. :D

Having said that...

I don't totally understand what the idea behind allowing each pedal to be on a different MIDI channel for each scene. I had to go through all of my existing scenes (fortunately there were only a handful) and fix the MIDI channels on each pedal in each scene. If I ever want to change the MIDI channels that I want these pedals operating on, that's going to be a huge pain to go through them all again. Having the pedals on their own MIDI channel as a global per-pedal option I get; that makes a ton of sense. But I don't see the benefit of making it dependent on scene, without a way to change them en masse, because it will be tedious to change if I ever want to do that. On the other hand, I'm very curious how this could be used and usually I prefer additional options. So if anyone has ideas on how this could be used, that would be cool.

The sudden wealth of MIDI options means leaves me with another bit of simultaneous disappointment and hope. I really wanted the MIDI options to be increased for the general Hub input/output. I don't like that I have to send PC changes to the Hub on the same channel that the HH3 and expression pedal are output to---I would love to output those to 3rd party pedals on a different channel from the PC messages I'm sending to the Hub for scenes. I've been the annoying squeaky wheel for this option on future versions of the Hub firmware and Hub Manager. A global option for the channel of the expression pedal and HH3, separate from the input channel, would be great. But more ambitiously to have THAT dependent on scene would be really great---for example, HH3 controls 3rd party pedal A on channel 8 and the expression pedal controls 3rd party pedal B on channel 9 in scene X, but the HH3 and expression swap pedals and channels in scene Y. Hopefully we see one of these in the next update...

It works - Thank you!

And there is a "Save scene to pedal", yay!, off to test this feature! :hyper:

I missed that when I was playing with it...what does it do? Is this the "auto-load" feature some of us have been waiting for (e.g., switch to a scene, you can turn that effect on a single pedal on and off)? Or is it just a way to save a preset with the current settings from a scene (a one-time transfer, not automatically every time you load a scene)?

When you load the scene it is also written to the pedal preset. This means you can use the pedal as a normal stompbox: the preset button becomes a bypass switch.

Did you test that out and that's how it actually works? If so, awesome. I opened up the program (not currently connected to a Hub) and didn't see where this option is. Can you guide me?

OK ... close, but there is a problem, the save to pedal function only seems to work if the scene is saved with the pedal activated, but I would like to save it bypassed. If I try that then the pedal will revert to some other preset that's in the pedal instead of the settings I just dialed in.

Not to change the subject and just to clarify, regarding the Reflex:
will you be able to adjust the sweep in the expression pedal like on the Roland EV-5? I know a couple other expression pedals have that same knob/function but the EV-5 is what I'm familiar with.

I got two questions regarding the MIDI CC# for individual pedals connected to the Hub.
1- in the MWBD the Output is the Distortion Mix?
2- Are the Manta CC# correct on the manual table? Yesterday I was trying to assign the expression pedal to the LFO speed and something was changing but it was not the LFO speed and I could not figure out what was it.

I have all the latest firmwares

Yep
1 - MIDI CC #14 is for the Distortion Mix on the SB2 Bass Multiwave Distortion.
2 - I replicated this here, Hub Firmware 1.13 and Manta Version 8. Sending Midi CC#39 changed the LFO speed of the Modulation. Are you positive you have the Depth Knob at a high Value? (all the way left or right) and are you sure the Mod Source is set to an LFO shape?

Okay so I was thinking about my earlier complaint/comment on the new MIDI channel stuff. Maybe I have understood how this could be useful. Let's say I had a scene of a few pedals on their own MIDI channels, and then another scene of a few different pedals on their own, different MIDI channels. Could I then effectively have scenes that operate independently of each other? So I could assign scenes 1-10 to control delay/modulation and scenes 11-20 to control dirt and filters, but since they are on their own channels, hitting scene 15 doesn't change the state of anything in the delay/modulation pedals? Would this already have been possible to do just with clever editing of scenes?

Hi LSMFT6,

I just want to make sure I understand what the EV-5 does. If I understand correctly, you can turn the little knob on the side and that will adjust the minimum/maximum resistance. Correct?

If so, then yes, the Reflex will let you do that, and more. You can define a minimum, maximum, inversion, and shape (linear/log) for all of your presets independently. That can all be configured using the hardware control interface. Hope that helps.

Was there a particular screw or fix for the DEP? I need to take the feet off to use on my board but the screws won't work without the feet. I remember it being discussed before but it was long before I had the pedal and I can't remember what came of it.

What come of it was that Roger stated the specs of the screws they used and the specs of the screws he thought would work best as a replacement. However, it will be a bear to try and dig up that particular post.
