The Multi-function input was never implemented. The only 1/8" function is an expression out that works with the Control Inputs on SB2 and One Series.

I have a Reflex and am looking to get a MIDI controller that can output tempo, so of course I'm looking at the Soleman. Can the Soleman pass tempo over the Sensor link to the Reflex? I have my Reflex hooked up to a trio of Iron ether pedals (expression out) and into a FI pedal (MIDI)?

If that doesn't work then I'm guessing i should use MIDI from the Soleman --> Relfex --> FI?

thx for any pointers.... (I just noticed that I can plug my mac into USB on the reflex and pass it MIDI Clock - sweet!)

I suppose I could just try this, but a short hypothetical: if two One Series were connected by a TRS cable (out of input 2 in both cases, as though each were being connected to a Neuro app device but instead they are connected to each other), would there be a downside or any side effects?

I do have an odd but legitimate reason for asking, which I can elaborate on as necessary.

The point of having TRS on input2/output2 is to pass the Neuro signal from your phone to the first pedal in the chain and then down the chain as far as necessary. The instrument signal is on the tip, while the Neuro signal in on the ring. Knowing this (which I would think you know already?) what exactly are you asking?

I am not a Soleman expert (@nnavarro is the expert on this), but I think you need to send tempo over MIDI.

The point of having TRS on input2/output2 is to pass the Neuro signal from your phone to the first pedal in the chain and then down the chain as far as necessary. The instrument signal is on the tip, while the Neuro signal in on the ring. Knowing this (which I would think you know already?) what exactly are you asking?

I actually did not know that the input 2 / output 2 path could be chained in that way for Neuro purposes; I've never done it before. So that's useful, new information to me.

My follow-up question, which is partially for curiosity but not entirely hypothetical: let's say I wanted to run mono audio on channel 1 from Pedal A to Pedal B, and was using channel 2 only for Neuro connections. Would running the Neuro path on channel 2 in the opposite direction, from Pedal B to Pedal A cause any problems, like some sort of audio bleed?

The soleman has an ‘expansion’ port that is a 1/8th TRRS output (and in some promo videos is labeled as ‘Neuro’ with the throwing star logo-what’s up with that SA guys?) but AFAIK it has not been implemented. Also, we now know the 1/8” input on the reflex is DOA. So no the Soleman can’t pass tempo over the sensor link to the reflex. You’d have to use the MIDI out on the soleman -> Reflex -> Fi. But the reflex does midi thru and midi merge so you’d be good to go.

Only thing I can’t answer yet is if the MIDI clock that is input into the reflex is output over the ‘sensor out’ you would send to the hub. The reflex user manual does describe the ‘sensor out’ as an output for one series or SB2 pedals, not as a Neuro Hub connector. I’m not entirely sure if the sensor input on the Hub is a full bandwidth midi input... but I’m not ready to crack open the hub and start drawing out the traces on the board yet.

My BIG question is this: does the TRRS implementation from SA use the midi standard in an 1/8” format (an analog to pins 4,5,and 2 as a ground from the DIN interface; with a simple resistor voltage on the 4th TRRS pin for transmitting expression) or is it a prop communication protocol on some different baud rate?

Actually, knowing that would help me a lot on going down the rabbit hole of my curiosity.

The Neuro signal is buffered so you can't go backwards through a pedal. But I think you asking about sending the Neuro signal through the chain in a different order than the instrument signal. So long as you force each pedal into mono in mono out, there is no issue. Some folks have other non SA pedals in between things, so this is essential at times.

Keep in mind that the Neuro port (aka Sensor port) goes back to our first product. It was for connecting Hot Hand, with 2 axies of analog motion data. It can still do that function, but much more has been added. Expression. Tap switch. But directional MIDI. Digital Hot Hand. It is a very complex communication port. Using the midi data without the Hub is not possible unless you are Jesse.

Yes, that's what I'm asking about - audio pedal order different than Neuro pedal order, not trying to send the Neuro signal backwards through a pedal.

I'd like to be able to have my hub and controller on the floor and the "target pedal" up on a table where I can tweak it easily.

The Spectrum and the C4 are actually the "same" pedal in the sense that Kingmaker/LA Lady/Aftershock are the "same" and Gemini/Mercury/Lunar are the "same"

It's great to see some love for the bad monkey!

Out of interest, what do you find it can do, that the Aftershock cant?

I can get pretty close sounds between the two, but there are some songs in the band where I need to switch between overdrive and fuzz. Just easier to have two separate pedals for that. My Bad Monkey is modified by Humphrey Audio (Badder Bad Monkey), I’ve had it for years and while other stuff goes it always stays.
