Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

This may be a very simple question to be answered, but here goes anyway; How can I hook up my C4 to my ES-8 to switch resets and receive midi messages? I know it utilizes USB midi and disaster area controllers can accommodate this. I also was under the impression ion that Disaster Area was releasing a "micro.ghost" converter, but this has been delayed apparently. I do have a hub as well, I'm not interested in scenes, just mostly sending preset changes to the C4. Preferably I don't want to have to wedge the hub under the board either. But as of now, what are the options for using my Es-8 to switch presets on the C4? Thanks for any and all input and help!

Unlike other One Series pedals, the C4 will store its own 128 presets which can be accessed with CC#s 103 and 104. One CC is "load active" and the other is "load inactive." So you use your Hub and send these messages (instead of PC or storing in a scene).

I believe you're gonna need the Hub here no matter what. Unless you used a compatible Disaster Area controller or a computer, iPad, etc. wired via USB.

Hi Pete,
The best way to do this currently is to put the Hub between your ES-8 and the C4. But, you cannot send PC messages to recall presets. You must send a CC plus the presets number you wish to recall.
For instance:
CC103 and 10 will recall preset 11 in Bypass
CC104 and 8 will recall preset 9 Engaged

You can reassign the CC number, but out of the box these are the defaults. Also note that in the Editor your preset numbers go from 1 to 128. In MIDI land the numbers go from 0 to 127

I hope everyone else here agrees with my recommendation!!

EDIT: looks like I was not fast enough! But, glad others agree.

@rsmith601 I'm very new to MIDI control so I apologize if this is obvious, but.....

What Disaster Area product should I be looking at if I want to be able to activate several different presets on the C4 instantly?

For example...3 buttons on a foot switch, each of them activates my C4 immediately with different sounds

I am going to suggest you reach out to them directly and tell them what you want to do. Matthew at DAD is a big Source Audio pedal user (including the C4) and he and his team can guide you to the best solution better than I can.

Hey, so after thinking about it some more, I bet I'll end up wanting to save more than 6 presets. What are the advantages of having an old HUB to the newer one (the older silver one over the newer black one)?? Is it the same difference pretty much? Man I've been outta the SA game for a while. There was time I was pretty privy to a lot of this stuff. I'm feeling a little lost now.

I've been under the impression that they're the same internally/functionally, just different aesthetic design on the outside. But maybe that's not the case?

But for it’s class and category, I believe the C4 will most likely be the only one that’ll beat it out. They are going to both be awesome! And I can’t wait to try them!

I totally agree with you since I think that the C4 and the SY-1 won't compete in the same level. They are two diferent types of synth pedals and to me they seem complementary instead of competing for the same ground. The SY-1 is a compact synth engine with a lot of sounds in which you can tweak just a few parameters and the hold function on it is absolutely amazing. It completely killed my GAS for a freeze type of pedal. The C4 is a modular synth in a box, which makes it such an unique unit on its own and opens such a dimension of possibilities. And the community shared patches makes it an evolving unit on its own. It's so much delivered in a small box that it's definitely a gamechanger because of the vastness of things that you can do with it.
That's why I'll be getting both as well since I have them pre-ordered at Thomann.

I need to take a MIDI learning course...

P.S.: And a modular synth course as well... Or at least some tutorials on how to make certain classic sounds on the C4 (that's a new path for all those youtube reviewers out there...).

Having just bought a Neuro Hub myself (and received it yesterday) I was also interested in this. I came across a post from RSmith that essentially said they are exactly the same, but they rebranded because "Neuro" sounds cooler than "Soundblox."

I ended up with the new style because that's what the cheapest unit I could find was. Not long after, someone listed a used one on Reverb for even cheaper ($60) with all the cables. It might still be up...

I had to go back and dig this up but thank you for doing this! I was planning to do this too myself for each of the filters, envelopes, distortions, and LFO patterns. I figured it will help dispel some of the Sorcery people see in the Neuro editor if each of the base tones available were presented individually.
I'm still planning to do something to show how different the LFOs can sound. Kinda meticulous and maybe useless to some but at least it'll help me.

I saw that. I almost grabbed it but decided to wait a min till I got some time with the pedal first. So we'll see.
