I cant seem to find the post from the dude that couldnt get the pedal to respond to Neuro app messages being sent. I seem to be having the same problem and wanted to know if that had been sorted out?

I already sent a request to SA about it as well.

I couldn’t get the Neuro app to burn a sound until I removed the USB cable from the back port. Also had to make sure the volume on my iPhone was maxed. Noticed that you can only see the name of the preset if you use the desktop editor to burn it in. Otherwise it just says User Preset 1.

Hmmmm, my issue must be different then. I tried volume maxed (among all other possible volume levels) and there’s no usb plugged in.

I think the SY1 is going to be a lot better and more in depth than any EHX synth put out. No offense to EHX, they’ve made some great synths. But the SY1 seems to me like it’s got more options, more sounds, more features and will end up tracking a lot better. Latencey doesn’t seem to be an issue at all either. For what it is, I feel like the SY is going to be hard to beat. The C4 will almost assuredly beat it out on more than one front. That’s why I ended up getting one. But I am also going to be sticking with my SY1 pre-ord. I hope to keep them both. I’m fans of both brands. And can you imagine running the C4 in the SY1’s effects loop!!?? It’s gonna be a ton of fun.


But I still think the SY1 is going to be better than some are speculating already. Maybe I’m wrong. But it sure doesn’t seem like it’s going to be just another “kinda cool, not so awesome” compact synth pedal. But I still believe the C4 will win out on more than one front. Again. And also again, I feel like the SY1 is already catching an unwarranted beating from some either because it’s got the Boss name on it or because they think it’ll be inferior to other synths. But for it’s class and category, I believe the C4 will most likely be the only one that’ll beat it out. They are going to both be awesome! And I can’t wait to try them!

Any beating the SY-1 is catching is probably due to the raw sound. The SY-300 is weak sounding/doesn’t utilize real oscillators.
I think it will have its uses, some will love it some won’t - no biggie either way.

Unlike other One Series pedals, the C4 will store its own 128 presets which can be accessed with CC#s 103 and 104. One CC is "load active" and the other is "load inactive." So you use your Hub and send these messages (instead of PC or storing in a scene).

I totally agree with you since I think that the C4 and the SY-1 won't compete in the same level. They are two diferent types of synth pedals and to me they seem complementary instead of competing for the same ground. The SY-1 is a compact synth engine with a lot of sounds in which you can tweak just a few parameters and the hold function on it is absolutely amazing. It completely killed my GAS for a freeze type of pedal. The C4 is a modular synth in a box, which makes it such an unique unit on its own and opens such a dimension of possibilities. And the community shared patches makes it an evolving unit on its own. It's so much delivered in a small box that it's definitely a gamechanger because of the vastness of things that you can do with it.
That's why I'll be getting both as well since I have them pre-ordered at Thomann.



I need to take a MIDI learning course...

P.S.: And a modular synth course as well... Or at least some tutorials on how to make certain classic sounds on the C4 (that's a new path for all those youtube reviewers out there...).

I will be glad once we are all past the comparisons and more folks are into the beauty of creating sounds and music with these amazing creations. The C4, FI and several others have limitless possibilities for creativity where the EHX and Boss are mores for performers looking for classic sounds. I hope my fellow bass players will dive into the world of electronic music and find the same inspiration that I do there. That has always been a driving force behind my effects and synth usage - the creation of new sounds and the inspiration from that.

The C4, FI and several others have limitless possibilities for creativity where the EHX and Boss are mores for performers looking for classic sounds. That has always been a driving force behind my effects and synth usage - the creation of new sounds and the inspiration from that.

Question about Spectrum
Top 3 Level Sounds:

• Tron= Mutron
• Dumpling= ??
• Thrust=Octave+some drive+some filter

Originally Dumpling was going to be the Meatball. It is a cool sound for both guitar and bass, and few others have taken the time to model it (maybe no one?). Its harder than the Mutron to get right. We are really close now given the new tools in C4. With that said, it is in the same general ballpark as the Mutron. Would it make more sense to do something really different? Keep in mind, the Meatball can be on the ALT set of presets, and certainly in the Neuro Library. Thoughts?

When I got the BEF Pro, I sold the Groove Regulator. Ordered my C4 last night, can't wait to dive into it! Told my guitarist buddy about there being only 2 left, and he grabbed the penultimate one.

I wish I could save my sounds with all my other effects. It's going to be a bit more work to find sounds and find sounds that are compatible with extra layers from the Ocean's 11. But I can also use my MarkBass SuperSynth as an octaver into the C4, with the Multiwave Pro sending overdrive into it all. That said, the sounds I save may not be as effective as a community preset. I take it these are designed so to be more effective with modulation from the One Series pedals? And are those effects available in the C4 editor? Like adding phasing to a preset? Sorry if this is unintelligible gibberish, really excited for Tuesday.

I think we will all be using the C4 in different contexts with different pedals. My self I am rethinking a lot of things some I will be getting rid of others i may be using differently. As attractive and amazing as the SA modulation, delay and reverbs are they are just a bit more than my needs are for live use so I will be looking to the Zoom CDR to fill my needs there (i'm using a MS60 atm but really dying to go stereo).

Not sure if I was the guy or not, but my problem was not so much with the app as it was with the pedal responding to CC messages from the hub. I did get it figured out. As @rsmith601 said, hub and C4 have to be on midi channel 1, and I had to change my pedal order in the midi chain, hub had to be first. I had my Reflex first before, set to channel 2, but it wasn't passing the messages correctly as a midi thru. Once I put the hub first in line, then everything seems to work fine. Haven't had much time with it yet, but it I think it's all set. Let me know if you (or anyone else) has questions, I'd be happy to help out.

As attractive and amazing as the SA modulation, delay and reverbs are they are just a bit more than my needs are for live use so I will be looking to the Zoom CDR to fill my needs there (i'm using a MS60 atm but really dying to go stereo).

I've found I really like synth with reverb, to give me ridiculous nuclear explosion bomb drops, and the Ocean's 11 and Canyon both set to Shimmer with a touch of delay delivers rich harmonies. The fact that the C4 allows the polyphonic shimmers already is what caused me to stop the Mike Hermans video and make the purchase. I still want a Ventris, but I currently have the aforementioned EHX pedals, plus the SuperEgo+ and the SA Dimension Reverb, which I love, so I think I'm good for a bit. The C4 pedal may eliminate my need for the Moog BassMuRF. The Mono Bass Synth and B9 I'm definitely getting rid of. That next Filter from SA looks pretty smart!

Somebody please help this insufferable GAS!

Got mine a few days back and it’s blowing my mind. There’s some really amazing sounds in the community page that are all kinds of fun. Anyone had any luck getting a Bruno Mars 24K magic type of sound?

I’m just getting into creating my own sounds and this pedal is deep!

I don’t believe that making comparisons or expressing the advantages/disadvantages of pedals (from the person making the critiques POV) means that people have less love for electronic music or using fx/synths as part of their creative process. I would say it means people are passionate.

That was me. I am using an iPhone 8, and so I had to use a dongle to hook up the 1/8” end of the Neuro plug to the phone. The app didn’t work with a 2 plug dongle (1/8” plus Lightning). When I swapped the dongle out for one that hand only and 1/8” jack everything worked perfectly. Hope that helps!

There’s tutorials online on how to get this with certain synthesizers, I figured it’d just be a matter of finding the right settings and adjusting as necessary. I was gonna work on this today but couldn’t get the app to work with the pedal.

Yea I wish they’d bring the headphone jack back. I held off as long as I could with an older phone just to keep the jack.

iPhone X here so I feel your pain - but you can use a Bluetooth aux adapter dongle with a 1/8” headphone jack with the neuro app. I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075JBLGLB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_AsbpDb3R63BV1

Plug the 1/8” part of the neuro cable into that and your not stuck to 3 feet away from your pedal. I think I saw Nathan talking about one and how they added phase inversion to the settings of the app for these type of things.

Also I use it all the time for my little Roland Cube practice amp. The battery life was really really good on it, I used it to rehearse for a sub gig nightly for 3 weeks and never had to charge it. And only a little bit more expensive than apples official lighting/headphone dongle

Yeah it’s what stopped me using my aftershock pretty much... found out can use Bluetooth to the app but that’s still needing a new cable thing I think

I am having the same issue with my iPhone 7 and the lightning dongle. Won’t work.

I’m confused on what kind of plug/adapter/cable y’all are using to get this to work with iPhones?
