I've been through a handful of straight and right angle MIDI cables...and the winner is the One Control Hammer Angle MIDI cable. They won't pass power, so if you have MIDI powered devices it's a no-go but if you're looking for the best to be compact, it's the choice. None of the right-angle cables worked for me at all. They almost all cover other ports/connectors on every pedal.

Have you tried the latest Rockboard flat or flax MIDI cables? Those look pretty small...

I have the OneControl cables as well, since they were the lowest profile I could find where you can also change the orientation

I've tried both. The One Control cables fit better on my board. The Rockbass ones require extra space on one side or the other (depending on their orientation), which became a problem on a few pedals of mine.

Roger. I've got a full set of those too. They block ports on nearly every pedal I own. It was an expensive 15 minute experiment to try them out. Nearly all pedals are super compact by way of connector real-estate and nothing but the OneControl ones really worked for me. Regular straight pull MIDIs would work except my board is tight (three rows) and didn't have the vertical space for them.

Hey all,

Can I switch presets on my SA Spectrum using just the DMC 3xl? I watched DAD's tutorial using the C4 and the dmc.micro, but "Spectrum" doesn't show up under devA. Is that just something the micro can do? Is there some setting i need to adjust? Or am I waiting on some firmware update?

I use the Rockboard Midi cables at one end (the angled ones, felt or right depending on the need) and I then cut the other end off and solder a straight connector. The Rockboard ones are a bit annoying that they are left angle and one end and right at the other.

Those are the flat ones right? The Invalid Link Removed version are reversible, similar to the OneControl cables.

That's a really unique design. If I hadn't already dumped more money that I have ever cared to into MIDI cables I would be all over those. Maybe I will still pick up a few. Do you know if they carry power?

I don't know, haven't tried them either! I'm pretty sure the OneControl version doesn't carry power because they couldn't cram 5 conductors into that cable and still have it be reversible.

Send a quick email to Disaster Audio. They're really good about replying.Your suspicion about firmware is probably the correct answer. They add the new devices with each new version of the firmware, so with the Spectrum so recently released they may not have yet. Though the newest firmware is from the past few weeks from the last time I checked...so check to make sure you're updated.

FWIW- I ended up liking the rockboard midi cables, but hated they covered other ports. Whammy, neuro, reflex, M9 all had some issue; one would be ok but since the other side was 180* connector it would compromise the other.

I said screw it and decided to take an exacto knife and cut the sleeve so I could bend the tab back. Worked fine. Then decided to see if I could cut around the entire perimeter of the rubber. They are prefect now! I only cut one of the 4 too deep and severed a wire but luckily it was a power wire (that I don’t use at this point). Data lines were fine.

The one control midi cables (with data only) were ok for some pedals but just sucked when trying to use it with my Reflex expression pedal.

I also bought some midi connectors to roll my own with solder but got lucky when decapitating the Rockboard right angle ones. That was my last ditch effort before making my own.

I think this pedal speaks for itself. Source Audio nailed it with this. The filters can get so wet and thick. No more Moog for me, and that was my bucket list filter.

Really nice demo. I'm kinda happy you did this with tapewounds. You really hear the nature and flavor of the filters and without all of the extra high end harmonics. Also because I use and love tapewounds myself.

I've gotta admit, I'm a bit underwhelmed by the filter sounds in the video. I have the C4 and it seems even more to be the better buy. I'm not loving the filters on the c4 yet, I know they're same, but at least it has all the other sound possibilities.

I always try to do 2 different tones for the intro and looping part, I change basses for each video, usually based on which sounds best for the situation. Yes, the filter sounds super fat with Tapewounds. And they tend to play a lot cleaner without finger noise and all that.

I really like the tapes, but I wish these particular ones had a tiny bit higher tension, I tend to bend them way too easily, which sometimes sounds great but other times it’s just too much. Also the strings not being able to be grounded has caused an issue at one gig so far. Just gotta remember to keep that thumb on the pickup lol.

Which strings are you using? The Black Nylons? I find them to be really loose too. I've had them on for months and I'm still not used to it but I love the mids response and the woody/clacky tone they give.
