Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

Hi guyz !

Is it possible to replicate a Dunlop 105-Q with an expression pedal and the Aftershock ? Or other SA pedals ? Which are your settings, please ?

My Dunlop is dead last week... I was using it with a Zvex Whooly mammoth +boss ls-2, i'd like to use the Aftershock (i create a good gated fuzz that emulate it) and my zoom fmp02 instead.

Is it possible ?

Thx in advance !

High blood pressure over here.
I'm fighting with an iConnectivity mioXM and Win10.
I have come to a point that the mio sees the LA Lady and Nemesis via mio's USB ports.
SA's pedals USB ports can be used as MIDI ports according the manual, so there's hope here.
I have a Ventris and a FI connected to the mio using din ports, but here it's harder to verify the connection.
Have anyone tried this kind of madness or is it Arkham asylum next for me ?

Blood pressure is currently below 1 bar (below 14.5 PSI for people in the US).
I have somehow managed to get Pandamidi's editor to connect to the FI, but the SA Neuro desktop editor seems to require direct USB connection to the pedals.
Can someone confirm this behaviour or do I have more configuration to do.
Neuro desktop editor doesn't even try to search for MIDI ports, or so it seems.

Depends what you are trying to do. If you want to have direct access to onboard presets of SA pedals then direct usb connection is required. Otherwise you can hook up the hub to your pc via usb and hook up the pedal to the hub via TRRS. Then when you click “create new scene” and “use attached pedals” you should be able to control the pedal directly.

I don't have SA's hub, I have a iConnectivity mioXM MIDI hub/router-thingey.
I intend to use it as a MIDI router when I have spent more money on a MC-8 and a bunch of expression pedals.

But if I want to do some programming, it should be possible to do it using a cheap android tablet via the headphone connector, right?
I know it's oneway communication but it will do as long as I only use the tablet for programming.

I do have a hub, but sometimes I use my Samsung Tablet to create presets, via the headphone jack. I find the bigger screen makes it easier for my crappy eyes to see rather than my phone.

How is the iConnectivity MIOXM going? It's on my wishlist due to it's routing abilities and the combination of four DIN ins, four DIN outs and four MIDI host ports, it seems like the ideal product to control the new generation of pedals, I plan on connecting the Hub (w/Kingmaker), Reflex, C4, EQ2, 8Step, FM3, V256, Voluum, Wahoo and MD500 to it, of course that means I'll need to creative in how I connect them but as long as it is a good product that functions as intended it'll be fine.

The mioxm is probably the best MIDI router on the market right now.
I intend to use it to distribute MIDI from a MC-8 and a bunch of expression pedals.
I don't have the MC-8 yet but just to been able to connect to it took most of the day.
It was appearently not very wise to uncheck the checkbox that wanted to install Apples Bonjour stuff.
Well, I'm leaving to my "little house on the prairie" tomorrow and might be away for maybe a week but I'll keep you updated when I continue my fight with this setup.

I’m just getting into the source audio stuff. I have a C4, EQ2 and aftershock on the way.

I’ve watched the demos on the Soleman, and one thing is not clear. Can I load any of the 128 presets into these pedals and then capture them with the Soleman and the hub as a preset?

Example, in one song I want to build a set list that starts with an EQ setting that I load from the bank of 128, not dial in with knobs, and bypass the other pedals. Them switch in an envelope filter through the C4 with some dirt from the aftershock, again, these pedals will be set from presets, not the knobs, then go back and bypass the C4 and aftershock again.

Additionally, if I have the aftershock in the C4 loop, can I bypass the synth and filter effects, and just dial in a little grit? Or will I need a second afterburner to have this feature?

Also, I like the look of how the soleman organizes scenes and setlists, but is there another midi solution (or more than 1) that might offer similar functionalities that I should be looking at. In my mind, I’d like to have a set list made of a list of songs, and a song made of a list of scenes, and a scene is all the settings of the controlled pedals. if I’m understanding the vocabulary of the Soleman correctly. Also, it would be great to have a single button access to mute everything and activate the tuner mode of the EQ. Barring this, I can bring a separate Tuner and plug it into the tuner out of my head, and hit the mute button on my head’s foot switch to keep the tuner off the pedal board.

Yes, you should be able to. Soleman is capable of sending CCs, which you’ll be able to use to call up internal presets on the pedals. You can send a PC message to the hub before doing that. Then, when you’ve assembled your scene, you can can hit save on the hub and it will be stored under the last PC you sent to it.

I typically just use scene mode and just have like 30 or so scenes setup right now. I believe in setlist mode, you can basically just reorganize the scenes into an order that would work for the songs you are playing.

In the example you mentioned, you could probably do it a couple of ways. You could have a scene that loads all of the settings that you want onto your eq, c4, and AS, but with the C4 & AS bypassed. So basically the scene would start with just eq on with whatever settings you have it programmed to, and then when you decide you need your c4 & AS turned on, you could just step on their respective switches. The other way to do it would be to have 1 scene where you just have the eq programmed to turn on. And then the next scene would keep the eq settings the same and have the c4 & AS engaged however you'd need them. That way you would essentially be turning on the c4 and AS by just pressing the next scene button rather than pressing each switch individually.

Not sure about the functionality of the AS in the c4 loop as I have not yet got to the point of experimenting with the loops. Also not sure about the other questions about the soleman.

What I have done that I liked is that I set the soleman tap tempo switch to the favorite setting instead. I have then programmed my very first scene on the soleman as all pedals off so that it is my dry signal and that scene is set as my favourite. That way I can quickly and easily go from my clean sound to whatever scene I decide to use at the time.

Hope that helps a bit until someone more knowledgable comes around!

I'm no expert on this, but you should be able to create a patch for the C4 that's just passing the signal unaffected and use that in conjunction with the dirt.

Wait a minute, how do you intend to connect the pedals ?
Is the C4 a true stereo pedal ?
If it is, then it sounds as you are going to run your signal through the first channel of the C4, into the Aftershock and then back into the second channel of the C4.
If you do it like this, then my suggestion for a clean patch will probably work.
If you have the Aftershock after the C4 then you should just deactivate the C4 for the dirt-only sound.

Disclaimer: I don't own a C4 and is in no way an expert on MIDI, I just sound like one.

Check out my C4/Spectrum loop patches, I’ve set up various routings that can be used as-is or as templates; these allow pedals in the loop to be used in various useful ways.

I've been doing a lot of research lately on MIDI and pedalboard controllers because I'm also about to take the plunge into that space. The Soleman is one that I haven't touched on much (yet), but from what I've been finding out so far, if your approach is very song/setlist oriented, look into the RJM Mastermind products. They are apparently pretty well used by professionals, and they have a very powerful configuration app with tabs specifically for songs and setlist scenes.

The downside is that due to how configurable they are, there's a learning curve. But from what I can tell, once you figure it out, they're pretty powerful. An RJM controller is currently at the top of the list of directions I'm considering, not for the setlist approach (just not my thing), but because of how flexible it seems to be.

I'm also very curious what kind of setups and controllers other SASS folk are using...

I’m still waiting on all my stuff to arrive, but where do I find these patches? Are they in the SA user repository? Do they involve multiple pedals with coordinated settings?

On the neuro cloud desktop/mobile. Filter by pedal type and/or my name and use keyword “loop”.

I’m a real automation nut. I do it for a living. It’s why I love the idea of these digital pedals. I don’t want to twiddle knobs for every different use of a pedal, and certainly don’t want 50 pedals on my board.

Being able to have favorite settings as presets is great.

Being able to call up settings across multiple pedals is better.

Being able to sequence all the above for specific songs so each time you need to change effects, it’s one click forward even better.

And being able to sequence songs into a set list is great for live. The only thing lacking in the Soleman seems to be the song level of organization. If the band resides to spontaneously deviate from a set list at a party because the guest of honor wants to hear her favorite song right now, there’s no easy way to do that, except to make each set list a song, but then there would be no way to organize a set list.

I’ll look into RJM for sure. Thanks.

How many different sounds do you need ? Really ?
OK, I'm an old fan of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, but I have no intention to recreate every sound Keith squeezed out of his polymoog on my FI.
Sometimes I wonder what you people are doing.

My current pedal board is 3 drive pedals (down from 5), 4 envelope filters, and a pigtronix ep-2. Is like to add a programmable ep.

So I want to be able to replace all those pedals with an Aftershock, an EQ2 and a C4 each with 2-4 settings, and a way to sequence the settings by song and step through them effortlessly. iPad control to augment the foot switch is acceptable.
