I already have a You’re Doom that I love in the loop of my Wonderlove, together with a T16. But to have everything in one package is fantastic. The Spectrum sounds really great, and to sit down and scroll through the shared presets is a real joy!

Yes, it’s been on my mind but I’m generally not that into synth sounds. That’s why I choose the Spectrum instead. But I’m sure there’s a lot of really cool presets for the C4!

Here are a couple of clips I did with Spectrum.

First is using Doom 2 plus the sub octave from the Okto Nøjs in the Spectrum’s loop.



Second is all Spectrum.

I think the Doom2 / Okto / Specturm sounds slightly sweeter....however in a mix, the Spectrum on it's own will sound pretty much the same. I also think that the Spectrum version is better because it's a "one box" solution and doesn't need the hassle for the extra loops and pedals.

Feeling glad we did both C4 and Spectrum. It was extra work, but it seems to hit the mark.

My analogue octaves do seem a bit “fuller” but this could be maybe overcome with EQ. The C4/Spectrum only have bass and treble controls. I haven’t tried running the output into the EQ2 yet and seeing if I can dial it in better.

Having everything I a single box is great and the ability to switch up sounds easily. There’s no way my analogue pedals could match the versatility and envelope shape choices of the C4/Spectrum.

I get the best of both worlds though. When I had a Manta, I pretty much always used the same two analogue dirt/octave pedals in front of it for my synth-type sounds. Now I can dial up something on C4/Spectrum alone or use the same analogue pedals in their loops.

I have two saturnworks TRS dual footswitches, one is momentary normally closed, one is momentary normally open, both work with the Soleman and cycle panel groups without issue.

Are you saying that on each dual footswitch unit there are 2 momentary switches and that one is normally closed, the other normally open ? or that you have 2 dual foot switches where both switches on one are normally closed and the other are normally open ?

...and does it matter ?

My inclination is that two, normally open is correct but I want to be sure before ordering.

I have two separate dual footswitches from them, on one both switches are momentary normally closed, the other both switches are momentary normally open. Both dual switchboxes will cycle panel groups on the Soleman, whether normally closed or normally open. They're the same size as my Brougton HPF pedal. I'm not sure which of the two is currently plugged into my soleman, but they both behave the same way plugged into it. The manual only specifies momentary SPST, and both types are single pole single throw.

Hey, y'all. Idiot question here. Got my C4 figured out enough that I'm ready to shove it on the pedal board. I have a chorus, fuzz, and Broughton Josh Wah that I don't want to give up. So do most of you drop the C4 after compression, fuzz or distortion, before modulation or what's the consensus? Right now I run preamp/compressor>Fuzztration>envelope>chorus, I have a micro synth from EH that I've been running right after compression but now that I gotta mess with the board it's a good time to revisit. Appreciate thoughts.

There are some interesting routing possibilities available using the 2nd in/out on the C4 if you’d potentially want to put the fuzz in the loop, and it could still work with the C4 bypassed if you put the fuzz after Out 1 going into In 2 and used Out 2 as your output on the C4 (though this would require some setting up in each patch to change the routing settings). By doing this, you can insert your fuzz into the internal C4 signal chain (after the voices and before the filter for example, though there are many possibilities including C4 patches that are just EQ/vibe/chorus/filter patches affecting your fuzz tone). If you don’t go that direction, I’d probably put the C4 in between compression and fuzz, then filter, then chorus last. Or depending on what you are doing with it, put the preamp last (as EQ’ing could potentially affect tracking of the C4, and you’d lose much of that tone shaping when using the synth voices- of the pre is at the end then it is affecting the entire signal). This is how I run my chain anyway.

Yeah I love that on the C4 you can use the extra jacks as an FX loop but without tying the pedals in the loop to the C4 in the way many FX loops work! I haven’t actually tried making any C4 patches specifically to manipulate an outside fuzz pedal, but it should work really well in theory. You could create a blend loop with a filter on only the clean tone with pre/post Fuzz EQ and so many other possibilities!

I have the C4 either going direct with just a limiting compressor before the amp. But with a loop pedal I can insert a distortion pedal, a POG octave pedal or a chorus/flanger pedal between the C4 and limiter. I find that some patches play well with the other pedals and some do not. And some could be simulated by the C4. But it's still a work in progress.

I did some experimenting with this and found the Soleman expects normally open switches. The normally closed ones work as well but I found it registered a press when I switched it on.

Tonight I had a free 30 minutes. Thought I would save some patches onto the C4. Finally get it organized. Instead I check what @Quatschmacher has been up to. Almost 2 hours later no organization done. Too much fun and too much inspiration from all the sounds. Great stuff.

It's a great way spend time in my opinion, I find myself exploring for hours. Think of an idea, then try to make it happen.
