Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

First post in this nice forum so first I'd like to say hi to everyone! :)

Yet another question about expression pedals. I'm currently using Boss EV-30 with C4. After calibration most of the expression action seems to happen in pedal's toe position. Afaik this is related to Boss' potentiometer being logarithmic instead of linear (not sure about that but imo it makes sense). Does Source Audio Dual Exp pedal behave differently with C4? ie does the affected parameter value change smoothly when rocking from pedal's heel position to toe? Just want to know before clicking that 'buy' button :D Thanks in advance.

If your not flipping the polarity at all to where expression is on the ring instead of the tip, then the expression isn’t going to operate properly. That could be your issue here.

Soleman, EQ2, external switches...

I have 2 primary EQ patches. Same curve for the present. the first is for my Marco N1 P. It includes an approximate 3 db boost. The other is for my Lull P5 which currently has a high output Nordstrand. So gain balancing...

If I pickup a Roland FS6 dual momentary can I assign each switch a Macro ? That way I have 1 set of patches and just step on the appropriate switch for a bass ? 1/4 trs to 1/8th trs cable as I understand it.

Wheels are spinning in that I might, just might pull my Bassbone in favor of a smaller Radial A/B and a JDI both of which I already own...

Currently no, the thought has been brought up (by me...... multiple times...... ) we may add additional controls for external switch or the expansion port for advanced operations.

Kind of aside from the point but I'd look into Saturnworks if you're looking for an additional footswitch.. you can get a dual switch with a much much smaller footprint than the FS-6. The FS-6 is pretty big, and requires a battery or a 9v adapter to a power supply.

I have two saturnworks TRS dual footswitches, one is momentary normally closed, one is momentary normally open, both work with the Soleman and cycle panel groups without issue. And even with the extra charge for painting them black they were less expensive than a new FS-6 @$34 USD a piece, don't require power unless you get them with LED's.. and neither takes much space on my pedalboard, although only one of them is on it atm. They're $27 if you don't opt for a black finish.

Mac users: Don't update to Catalina 10.15.6 yet. I accidentally did and now the Neuro app can't be opened because it identifies the app as malware. I sent a message to SA to hopefully get it resolved soon.
Just go to your security settings and add it to the list of approved apps.

Did you download the latest neuro version after updating your mad?

Polarity is checked and it's ok. My post might have been a bit vague so I try again:

1) I connect Boss EV-30 to C4 and calibrate it with Neuro desktop app. Control input calibrating gives min value of 0 and range 1022
2) Attach some parameters to exp pedal. For example Control input X controlling the mix.
3) Pedal in heel position -> Signal is 100% dry. Pedal in toe position -> Signal is 100% wet. Everything seems to be ok here.
4) Problem is that when the pedal is at 90% toe position mix has already dropped to around 10% wet. -> Small movement of the pedal yields big value changes and the rest of the movement does practically nothing. This makes controlling the expression pretty damn difficult.

Is this normal behaviour with all expression pedals connected to C4 or just typical to Boss? Does Source Audio Dual exp pedal (or some other pedal) give smoother results?

Hope this makes sense. Thanks :)

Have you tried adjusting the range knobs on the front of the pedal? There's a knob for each output.

Yes. Didn't help. Tried different combos (adjusted knob and calibrated again, adjusted knob after calibrating, tried different values manually in app) but got no success. Range knob adjusted to the minimum (8 o'clock) and then calibrating (the process in my previous post) gave the best results so far.

Sorry that's the only thing I could think of personally. I have my moog-ep3 plugged into my Soleman, and while it's a bit touchy, it's more due to the limitations of midi cc messages ranging from 0-127.

Makes me curious what SA thinks about midi 2.0 being announced this year, and if they have any plans regarding it in the future as a wider range for midi expression and fine control seems like one of the benefits.

Thanks, that sounds like it might work for me.

Check the Neuro feed. I've just posted some Spectrum presets where you can put dirt and octave in the loop. I've also ported my FX loop contents patch. I'll port the parallel FX loop one later too.

It was related to having both a new and old version of Neuro installed. I had to delete both and reinstall the latest version and it works again.

I began last night using the Neuro app, Aftershock, and my iPad.

When I select certain presets from the app, and then burn, select the toggle, sometimes I hear a noise indicating that it’s working and the tones change accordingly. Sometimes I do the exact same thing and nothing happens.

The app is up to date, I am plugging into the alt 1 jack on the pedal... Anything I’m doing wrong? I contacted support too, just wondering if there is something simple I am missing. I contacted SA support via email but I wanted to ask here too. I also can’t get anything to change on the Lunar.

What do you mean by alt 1? Input 2?
