Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

Way to big to read it all. Has this been addressed? SA C4.
Anybody here use a DNC Micro with a USB mini-B to USB mini-B cable? Any reason I should not want to do that? I'm redoing my board and that may make my geography work out better. Currently using the gHOST adapter with a way-too-long cable. Anybody?

I’ve tried a few different cables, and the combo I ended up with has up-angle and down-angle ends which make it much easier to use on a pedalboard vs cables with straight ends (you need one of each up/down-angle because the USB jacks are oriented in the opposite way between the C4 and the DMC pedals). I didn’t find a single cable available at the time with both of the correct ends, but found one short main cable and a short adaptor cable for the other end. This is actually useful because I can hook a USB up to my computer via this junction without removing pedals from my pedalboard. I think that not all cables will work, but the ones I picked up do. I can try to find where I sourced them (I think one was Amazon and one EBay).

Thanks, @sunbeast the one I wanted to try is a camera mini B to mini B jumper.
The real estate plan is I want to slot the switch below the C4. I've been assuming the gHOST adapter is just a scale pass through but wanted to see if anybody else knew more. There's enough length that I can get around the left side of the C4 easily with a gap for the power connector. I'll give it a shot. What could possibly go wrong?

I actually ordered a couple right-angle cables in different configurations too, but found the down-angle cables worked much better for my board. I originally had one of the Ghost cables from DMC but tension from the way it fit in my board messed up one of the ends. Not a big fan of that style connector on a pedalboard (any more than on a Cel phone) because of how weak and prone to trauma it is. Routing the down-angle cable ends down into the openings between slots on my Pedaltrains makes them as resistant as possible to being pulled or twisted. I did have at least one right-angle cable that didn’t work for this function (but still works as a charging cable), so there may be some cables without the same needed internal connections.

Also using the cable in the picture, you can find adaptions with any angle you want on the other end (my DMC is the 8, and on that one right-angles got in the way)

I have not yet had time to dig into this gear yet, but I’m wondering if the following is possible:

1. Using the neuro hub and a bunch of SA pedals, set up a bunch of scenes with the assistance of the computer neuro lab ui.

2. using the sole man and the neuro lab interface set up a playlist that corresponds to a single song. I can set up to 64 of these set lists.

3. Since I want to use the set list feature to hold the settings for individual songs, I now need a way to build a list of set lists in the Soleman to step through the songs with less tap dancing than would be required using the Soleman alone. Can I use a second midi controller to easily step through the Soleman set lists? Ideally I’d like to set up the set lists (which are individual songs) to be in sequence, and have a way to step up and down through the list, and use the Soleman to step through the effects in each set list.

Use case: we frequently play a predetermined setlist, but sometimes take requests that have us deviate from that list. It would be great to just scroll to the song I need quickly, and then get back to the setlist in progress, and easily skip past the song that may have been played out of sequence. All while having clear labels.

Recommendations for both a midi pedal that can step through the setlist, or key in a random access sequence code would be appreciated.

I just want to say that if source audio pedals are not or are your favorite, the customer service and people who use their products are the most helpful people around. Never have I ran into trouble looking or requesting customer service from the company or people who own the pedals. You ask help from other resources and they treat it like a secret society. I went the other way instead of ordering the C4. Wish I ordered the C4 instead of the other guy.

Hi all
I have a C4, the neuroHub and the soleman. How can I access a given C4 preset (one located above the six directly selectable) without a computer ?
Other question : with the neuro app (iphone), how can I select a given preset on the C4 ?
Thank you

if trying to access presets on the C4 directly, you’ll need to use cc103 (bypsss) cc104 (active) with any value between 0 and 127 to load the preset number your looking for. Or just save all those presets to the hub and use scene mode on soleman to scroll through the presets directly that way. hub does not pass on midi PC messages over the 1/8” control ports.

I think the easiest, and least complicated way to do this, is to just lean over and switch back to scene mode and manually scroll through your songs that way. Rather than making a separate set list for each song. Then switch back to set list mode, and load your set list, then scroll back to the song you left off on (youd have to do this no matter what way to tackle it, leaving set list mode resets the set list to where you must choose the set list before resuming).

if you want to go the midi controller route, then a controller that sends midi notes is best (note messages are used to recall scenes, as PC messages are used for recalling panels, then CC messages are used to recall scenes, panes, set lists, as well as cycling through modes, but your not going to find a lot of midi controllers on the low end of cost that will cycle through cc values for a given cc number, again, making recalling individual set lists the least efficient way to do this). A dmc micro is gonna be the cheapest thing that can do this. Then you can recall scenes that way to recall a specific song.

personally, I live in panel mode, and setup a macro to recall the scene I need for a song, then use the 4 footswitches to change settings on specific pedals or actions to continue through the song, using a single scene, rather than multiples. But then you need to get handy with building scenes for each song and a panel to control it, then you need a way to organize them (the best of which I have found is to export each panel for a song, then import them in the order that I plan on using them in).

been working with jesse on ideas to help streamline using the different modes of soleman in an on the fly, live setting that is a bit more conducive and less limiting to a single mode in a performance.

So without going full engineer on you: The adapter isn't just a plug shape converter. A "host" versus "peripheral" device is identified in the USB protocol by a certain pin, so what end of the cable you plug into what device matters. Host and peripheral sides come in different shapes as mandated by the standard so that you know what plug goes into what receptacle on your device. Type A sides are for hosts, B sides are for peripherals. The gHOST adapter is taking the Type A Host side of a USB cable and making that fit into your DMC's type B receptacle, so that it can act as the host and the C4 the peripheral.

Also note that there are non-standard USB host cable shapes floating around, they are rare, but there are mini-to-mini cables that can work on Amazon. In any case, if a cable doesn't work, it won't and can't fry anything.

And to clarify, what you have in your pic is a miniB-to-miniA cable, so the miniA side won't fit the C4. The non-standard cable I mentioned would be a miniB-to-miniB where one side pretends to be an A. Which shouldn't exist per the standard, but alas, it does on Amazon at a few no-name manufacturers.

:) You are always welcome to be a C4 customer too. :)

Is there a Planned Upgrade to the Soleman Coming soon enough to make it worth waiting for or was that Just wishful thinking? If it is going to be a long time then I will buy one soon If it is coming relatively soon I will hold off.
Nothing in the works at the moment, other than software enhancements.

I've got a Boss OC-5 on order, I always like to play with an -12 octave (sort of like an always-on effect). I'm also thinking about getting a C4... Do I still need the Boss or does the C4 have a decent polyphonic down octave that I can pretty much enable for every patch? (I guess I won't have the option to disable it like I would on the Boss though)

The C4 is not polyphonic
