Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

I think it was $299.

$249 for both the regular bass and guitar release versions of memory serves. Both versions have access to same presets, just different knob controls by default.
Oh you’re right! I just found it on the gearpage

Incredibly stoked for the Ultrawave. Have had the MWBD since 2010, and just took it off my board when my Aftershock came in a few weeks ago. The Ultrawave will be a most welcome edition, and this may be what tips me over the edge on getting a Soleman or like unit to master the Source Audio universe I'll be running with the C4 and Collider. This will be kicking my EHX Platform off my board for the compressor, really excited for the HPF/LPF, 10 band tremoloes, and the coolest thing ever about the MWBD: preset morphing. Rocking between them with an expression pedal is great fun, but what this thing can do is light years beyond. I feel no guilt whatsoever about wanting this pedal, and while I may sell the old MWBD, I may also have make a small board for it, the BEF Pro, and the Dimension Reverb...

Have set an alarm, so that when 11 comes, that little fella is coming to my lair.

I am trying to configure the AfterShock for Expression CC with the same setup as above. There is no 'Remote Expression' parameter assignment. I tried the procedure in the manual. It does not seem to work when sending midi cc via the neuro hub. Any suggestions?
It depends on what you are looking to control on the Aftershock over Midi CC expression. If it's a mono volume swell, then set a CC parameter (say CC# 15) to "Left Output". This is set via the Neuro Desktop under the "Device" Tab (top left of the interface). If you are using your Aftershock in Stereo, then you'll need to set up another CC Parameter (say CC #16) to the "Right Output".
In the main patch panel, under "External Control": Enable the "External Control" box / button so that's dark grey. Choose "Hub Expression Input" under Control Source and Select "Default (Drive Control) under Control Destination.
This last setting needs to be applied to every patch because the AfterShock's default patch settings don't have this enabled.

This will get you a volume swell using expression over midi from the AfterShock's point of view. I find it ok, but a bit random...sometimes I fond that the Expression over Midi works fine, other days it won't close to zero.

I use a Boss ES-5, so for me, I send a Midi Assign. SW: On. EXP: CATE. Ch :8. CC#:15. So here, my Afterschock is on Midi Ch 8 (Hub is on Ch1), Left Output is set to midi map 15 on my Aftershock.

Don't even get me started on the Expression over Midi where the EQ2 is concearned....that's just broken on the EQ2's native Midi ports at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback. If you look at the Neuro App page for the AF, there is a section at the bottom to sweep several params via expression? I would like to use that feature.
Make sure you’re on the correct channel and check to make sure the assignment is present in the MIDI map.

I am sure the midi channel settings are correct. I am just not sure what mapping to use for that feature. There is no 'Remote Expression' option like with the Collider or the C4.
I meant, if there’s a MIDI map, make sure CC100 is set for external expression/control - it may have been altered. I don’t have an Aftershock otherwise I’d happily check for you.

The early pedals don’t have remote expression but was never added in, you’ll need to connect to the hub for expression control of the 4 parameters.

Do you mean that expression will only work if an expression pedal is connected either directly to the pedal's control input port, or a TRS expression pedal is plugged into the Hub's TRS port?

There is no expression option in the assigned parameters list that I can see.

Ah, so expression will only work if the expression pedal is connected directly to the hub?

No.
I have Midi CC expression working with my Lunar, C4, Aftershock and to some degree my EQ2. You connect your expression pedal to your midi controller (in my case a Boss ES-5). That controller reads the expression, interprets it and sends it as a midi signal to what ever Midi Channel and CC midi map you instruct it. Every Source Audio pedal require a Nuro Hub to act as a midi interpreter (except Collider, Ventris, Nemesis and EQ2 which all have Midi DIN sockets). If you follow my instructions using the Neuro Desktop...you can get this working. You need to choose which parameter is assigned to which CC value. This is done via the Device Midi map under the device TAB. My Lunar, I have CC 15 mapped to "Speed". When I send midi CC# 15 to Midi Ch 3....the expression controls the device Speed. This is really useful with say a rotary sim patch.
With my Aftershock, I could choose "Left Drive" if I wanted my expression to control the amount of Grit...or "Left Output" for volume swells.
Unfortunately the Aftershock doesn't have global CC parameters like "output volume" or "Drive". Only left or right options for each channel. Left is the top drive circuit on the Neuro App, that corresponds to the Output 1 on the pedal.
It's also a massive pity that neither the Lunar or Aftershock have any way of changing patches via Midi CC because there isn't a Midi CC assign for that function in the drop down list. Neither Do they offer patch changing via Midi PC, which is a massive oversight.

One of the frustrations with Source Audio gear is evolution of their Neuro Desktop interface. Each pedal is effectively unique and different. I have to remember how to program CC and PC differently between my SA pedals. My Lunar and Aftershock are pretty much the same interface. The C4 is completely different (but much better) and my EQ2 is different again.

At the moment, the EQ2 is riddled with MIDI bugs. I'm kind of gutted that I bought this over the Boss EQ200. Which was cheaper and would have just worked out of the box.
I'm also a little peeved that the Lunar has no midi PC or CC ability to patch change. I'm now thinking that the Boss MD-200 is a better modulation option until SA get their act together modulation wise.

So EQ2 MIDI issues:
If I connect my EQ2 to my Neuro hub, CC patch change (CC# 104) doesn't work period. If I disconnect my EQ 2 from the Neuro hub and connect the Midi Din leads...and reboot my EQ2...then this same CC#104 command works.
If I power up my EQ2 from cold, it is unresponsive to any CC expression commands until I reboot my EQ2 a second time. However, the same CC midi Expression works first time (first boot) if I disconnect the Midi Din leads and just use the Neuro Hub lead. I am now an expert when dealing with Source Audio gear and midi. The EQ2 in my opinion is just broken where midi is concerned. Before you ask...yes I have done a firmware reset and yes I am using the new beta firmware and no change from the previous firmware.

First I have heard of this stuff on the EQ2. We will investigate ASAP.
We had to change and improve the control approach moving from the first pedals in the One Series to the newer ones. At release, the original pedals had one preset. That was more than most small pedals at the time.
