OK, so I see mention of both the C4 and the Spectrum being used as an octave up/down options (with each pedal obviously having different purposes in addition to octaves).

Is one pedal better suited to being an octave pedal? Or do both share the same "guts" but come loaded out of the box with different sounds?

Eventually I'll likely get both (along with an Ultrawave) but for the moment I'm just looking to start with one of them.

Simply put, the c4 can do everything the spectrum can and more.

The Spectrum has the same basic octave and pitch-shifting voices, but none of the synth waveform voices. If you are just looking for octave-based voices + distortion and filter then the Spectrum may be fine for you

Also, are the L.A. Lady Overdrive/Kingmaker Fuzz/Aftershock Bass Distortion like the lunar/mercury/Gemini in that they can all load each other’s programs? And does the vertigo share programs with any other pedals?

I have no idea, however my "go to" Trem sound is a "Simple Tremolo" patch on my C4. Curiously, I can't seem to dial in a simple trem on my Ultrawave. It's a great pedal for complex and wilt sequences and multi trems. But I haven't cracked the Simple trem dial in for it yet.

The Vertigo and True Spring Reverbs (both very popular with guitarists) are both stand along pedals. They don't share their models with other pedals.

Thanks. This is very helpful. I’m building a second pedalboard for guitar. Or maybe a combined pedalboard for bass and guitar. I’m a pretty solid amateur bassist, but a total hack guitarist and thought reusing some of my bass pedals for guitar (since I only play guitar for home recording/songwriting) would help save a little money.

So I’m putting together the pedalboard to rule them all. I bought into the SA ecosystem during the pandemic with a few pedals. I still haven’t got deeply into programming them or learning to use the hubs and controllers to build scenes I want to recall. My job gets a lot slower starting next month and this is my winter project.

I started home recording again during the pandemic, but only bass. I’ve played with the SA pedals, but not too seriously yet. This month I’ve started recording guitar again, and upgraded my guitar.

So my collection in hand, and in the mail on the way includes:


Ventris
Nemesis
Aftershock
Lunar
Vertigo
Spectrum
C4
EQ2
UltraWave

2 hubs
Soleman
Morningstar MC8
Cioks DC7 (I may need another?)

And my goal is to configure the pedalboard such that I can use it for both guitar and bass, and not have to buy multiples.

I have a Bergantino HP which has OD and compression and a great tone stack. My guitar amp is a micro tube amp (Bugera G5 and an Orange 112). Both have effect loops. Figuring out how to order these and which ones go in the effects loops is going to be interesting. And can I do it in a way that works on both instruments without having to buy more pedals?

This is going to be a fun exploration I hope!

Hello,

I have the aftershock, nemesis and the C4.
Just bought me the neuro hub and the expression pedal.
Now I am looking to combine these to a borrowed 3th party MIDI pedal. the OneControl Gecko mk3.
Maybe I'll get the soleman later.. for now it seems an overkill :)

Is there a good instruction on a website, pdf of yt vid explaining how to get the neuro hub working with a different MIDI pedal? how to configure things in the Desktop neuro editor? Maybe a few good posts in this thread explaining this?
I am new to midi, have done some reading, but am having a hard time to get it working.

Am I understanding correctly:
- The scenes are stored in the HUB
- When I save a scene in the desktop editor the number of the scene (preset pane on the right-side of the screen) +1, due to it starting at '0' is the Program Change number. I'm implying that I do not need to configure the scene to match a PC#.
- The program change # is what my MIDI pedal should be sending out to activate the corresponding scene.
- I should give all pedals the same MIDI channel (connections pane on the left side of the screen)
- I should give the pedals in a scene a different number (what is this number exactly?)
- When I make a change on the fly, hit the save button on the neuro hub, this is stored in the scene corresponding to the PC# my midi pedal is sending
- tap tempo is the default midi clock, so if my midi pedal has a tap tempo switch, I need to do no config at all to have it working with all my pedals connected to the neuro hub?

Am I following this correctly? Will this work?
Is there anything I need to setup additionally to have it work?

Most of what you have is correct. A couple things:
- Each pedal (including the Neuro hub) should have it’s own MIDI channel so you can send messages to a specific pedal
- To change scene on the Neuro Hub, send the PC# to the MIDI channel of the Hub
- When you save the scene with the button on the hub, it will save to the last PC# that was sent to it. For example, set up a preset on your controller for PC5, press that button to trigger PC5 on the Neuro Hub, tsetup the pedals how you want, then hit save.
- I haven’t used midi clock on my Source Audio pedals, but I believe each pedal that supports it has a toggle when using the desktop editor to allow it to listen for midi clock.

Ok thx, this might explain what is going wrong.

so imagine:
- neuro hub is MIDIch1
- nemesis is MIDIch2
- C4 is MIDIch3

My midi pedal sends:
MIDIch1 PC001 --> this will recall scene 000
MIDIch2 PC001 --> this will only change the nemesis to preset 000, leave the rest of the pedals unchanged.

For the last one to work I need to connect the usb cable directly to the nemesis and have some presets configured.

Yes, that is correct (although you have the PC/preset numbering the wrong way around). If you have the Nemesis connected directly to the Neuro Hub it is unable to receive PC messages (the Hub filters them out). It is able to receive CC messages though, and according to the MIDI implementation for the Nemesis, you can send CC104 with a value between 0-127 to load a preset.

So if you send MIDIch2 CC104 001, this will load preset 2 on the nemesis.

fyi, I found out there is a difference between midi clock and tap tempo CC (control change). The OneControl Gecko mk3 has tap tempo cc (off by default as it turned out!). No midi clock as far as I know.
One more reason to get me the Soleman :whistle: or an external taptempo switch with midi clock? tbc...

--> these are the scene data channels I meant, apparantly they have to be set the same as the pedals Midi channel# otherwise it won't work.

Hate to disrupt the MIDI discussion in the SA thread, and yes, I probably am being lazy...
Is there a way to search the SA Neuro site for presets? I know what I want, but there's 255 pages of presets and I can't seem to find a way of narrowing down what I'm looking for except by pedal type (that's how I got is down to 'only' 255...)
"Superstition" has turned up in a project's setlist and I'm looking for anything that approximates a Clavinet sound.
So if you can point me to such a preset, I'd appreciate it. If you can tell me how to apply search terms to presets, I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate it.
