I have a real affection for the Aftershock. I only took it off my board a few months back and I now use my Ultrawave as my sole dirt engine (hey it's got 4 dirt voices). I can do a lot more with the Ultrawave and it has a far broader pallet of tones. It's midi implementation is on another level. However, I miss the accessibility and simplicity of the Aftershock. The 6 internal patches and the 4 knobs cover a lot of ground and it's super easy to dial in. If only all analogue dirt pedals worked as intuitively as the Aftershock. I like to re-map the mix knob for bass and the treble control is perfect. Grit / dirt knob and a master volume knob...perfect for bass.

I sometimes wonder if the Aftershock might have suited me better than the UW. I dont regret having the UW, but sometimes just want to grab a 'straightforward' (mildish) distortion on the go. I never found an OD pedal that I liked. The UW sends me round in circles at times. My cloth ears don't always distinguish so much difference between using 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 or 10 bands. The distortions are often v FULL ON and I dial right back to try and distinguish different vibes. Probably not helping myself by not having a particular sound in mind, when I set off exploring. I tend to think the subtle multibands /trems are better suited to guitar than bass...??

BUT, that said, its the UW versatility which keeps me liking it. End of my chain, I really like the comp/EQ options with a bit of mild OD/morph.......gives real punch and bite to various amp/cab sims with my Boss GT-1B. The UW just makes things sound better and more 'alive'. Im not using MIDI (yet)

I'm joining two (2) Nano's with Velcro-Loc that fit into my backpack. Then covering the entire surface with Velcro-Loc, as well. Then attaching each of the components to the board at the optimum location.

Yes, quite easily. It'll require a bit of configuring in the Neuro desktop as the two channels will need to be split and saved as a specific patch that does this for you. Once saved, you can use it as a template for your other future EQ2 patches. It is quite easily done and we can certainly assist & help.

Chorus, really, can't find that on their sound, whish they added more flanger, chorus, rotary sounds also....

UW doesn't have a delay line so any chorusing-like tones are totally pseudo-chorus. A delay line would have been SUPER expensive (both literally and figuratively in the code). The UW already has so many features that the processor is filled up 100%. We actually had to delete some stuff to get everything to fit.

I wonder that too since I only really use the pedal at the end of my dry effects as a Limiter/Eq and with GMC's You're Doom 2 Patch. I initially thought about lifting the Aftershock off the board but its so useful for just what you are stating, a good straight forwardish mild OD or Distortion. So i use it to stack with the UW as like a dirty boost IN to drive it a little harder. Made sense to me rather than have to take up preset space on the pedal or have to figure out a way of programing the switch (I use an MC8) to fit my work flow.

Aftershock and the other drive One Series are very compatible, so you can also pull from the LA Lady and Kingmaker Fuzz neuro presets with that one. The UW might be way more than I feel I need at the moment, and i've really only scratched the surface. One day i'll find a need for adding Multiband Tremolo and some more extreme Fuzz sounds, but for now the AS for OD and Dist, and the UW for Fuzz.

Source Audio, initially put out a few Tutorial videos that were kind of helpful, but I wish they had some deeper dives on using the pedals for different applications to really highlight what it can do. When I was first learning the Morningstar MC8 i found their tutorial videos to be extremely helpful with getting my head around their controller and its capabilities. It came in very handy when I used to use the HX Stomp. Same thing with the Chase Bliss pedals, i found their loads of, IMO necessary, tutorials to be very helpful.

Interesting.

I was initially intrigued by the potential synthy/fuzz and quirky sounds with the UW. I didn't buy it at as (just another) distortion pedal. But after several months exploring it, I just haven't mastered building these sounds. I don't feel in control. Not necessarily a bad thing, as I like alternative sounds 'found by accident'. I just tweak other guys presets or make useful basic ones - like my scooped drive, or EQ /comp bass boost. I did successfully make a light distorted preset utilising some (atmospheric) multi trem & morph, for jamming with a song writer, who liked it. It sounded much better than my GT-1B

I don't regret buying an UW at all though. The unit is so many things. Once I stopped beating myself up as an 'incompetent creative sound builder', I saw it with fresh eyes and the components within as v useful.

Im also interested in how other bass players have adjusted their playing technique/musical thinking after learning/using the UW (and C4) ?? Its made me rethink some things for sure. I might start a fresh thread to chat about this.....

My current band has 2 guitarists, who often add distortion, so there isn't often the sonic space for me to go full distortion with the bass. I tend to like a bit of grit & punch, which I can achieve/refine with the UW (better than previous distortion pedals). But I'd love to create some original alternative sounds and have the space to play them. Recently got the C4, I'm now having fun with 'dirty funk' type grooves. Might start a separate band project along these lines. Call it the band Ultra :roflmao:

The Ultrawave has a running topic already.
I love the completely unique sounds I can get with the Ultrawave as well as the utility functions from the compressor and EQ.

yeah, you helped me out on the other thread. You did some cool UW presets...cant remeber which ones off the top of my head, but good stuff.
