Happy ending alert..

I was having some clarity issues on some downtuned stuff using .145-50 strings (ACGCF tuning). Rather than just crank the mids on my bass, I scoped out an overdrive patch on the Neuro community for the Aftershock. Didnt really have time to fiddle with the UW for this.

I found the "Low Gain OD" patch by adamaarts - it was the perfect starting point. I sent that into an Atlas patch I made and started tweaking the Aftershock. Within a few minutes I had exactly what I needed. Clarity, punch, a little grind I could adjust with the "clean" knob.. The community came through again in a pinch.

Hey SA folks, quick question. I am setting up some patches in my spectrum and trying to set up a side chain effects loop. I've got the dry signal coming in input 1, being passed to output 2, through the external effects, and back to input two, which then gets filtered and leaves via output 1.

The mix knob displays erratic behaviour when trying to blend in some dry signal, it seems to be glitching out and causing a weird buzzing whenever I blend in any clean. Is there any way to adjust the settings so the mix knob actually works? I suspect that the issue comes in that the mix knob is trying to blend in both the clean signal from input 1 and the loop return from input 2. Is the mix knob just not useable in this case?

What pedal are we talking about? Do you have the I/O routing set for external loop? Is it getting the proper amount of amps?

Thanks for the reply! Its the Spectrum. The I/O is set to auto detect. It should be getting enough amps. I thought the external loop was for placing effects before the Spectrum? I want to set up a side chain style loop so the envelope is triggered by my dry signal, but it would be nice to have the ability to blend in cleans.

If your feeding back into it like that, then you need to use the fx loop. I’m not sure what your trying to do. But currently, if the loop isn’t enabled, your feeding the output back into the input of the same channel. If your wanting to have the spectrum before and after you pedals, then you need to go out for f channel 1, then to the effects, then back into 2 then out 2 to your amp.

I'm trying to do what SA talks about in the manual on the start of page 44 - inserting an external effect into the signal chain. I am trying to duplicate the functionality of the 3Leaf Chromatron where the dry input signal triggers the envelope, but a fuzz pedal sits in the effect loop, and that is the signal that is actually getting filtered. That way the dynamics of your clean signal are triggering the envelope, instead of the fuzz signal which is totally compressed and has almost no dynamics. The Chromatron does this and allows your clean signal to be blended with the effected, filtered signal.

My understanding is the effects loop is a pre-effect signal which would place the fuzz in front of the octave voices in the spectrum, which is not what I want.

Hopefully this diagram explains what I am trying to achieve

Here's how I've done it.

Input routing: Dual Input 1&2
Clean signal into 1 > Voice 1 is mono in 1 panned to Processor 1/Mix 1 > Output 2 Only.
Output jack 2 > (fuzz, reverb, another C4, whatever)
Input jack 2 is the output of the (whatever) above.
Voice 2 is mono input 2, panned to Processor 2/Mix 2 > (Filter Only or Distortion/Filter) > Output 1 Only.

Use Envelope 1, set to Audio Input 1 to trigger the filter.

Like this I can blend dry signal in with the mix knob and/or pan Voice 1 a bit into Processor 2 to get clean filtered signal blended with fuzzy filtered, blended with clean.

Just don't pan Voice 2 into Processor/ Mix1;)

Edited to add: I am using the buffered bypass. I've never tried this with true bypass, but logically it should work.

I have some template patches for this kind of thing. Search my patches using “loop” as a keyword, then read the descriptions to choose the one you need. You can then alter the filter settings to taste.
