Source Audio Sorcerers Society (S.A.S.S) Part 3

Unfortunately, aftershock will not hold multiple presets like the C4. I think it is limited to three. I use the neuro hub mostly to save additional presets for it like I would on the internal memory of the C4. Their modulation pedals are the same as the aftershock in that regard. I am not certain why they did not “upgrade“ those pedals to have the memory, that the C4 and spectrum and ultra wave have.

There was no available code left on the older devices to make this happen, plus a very high risk of breaking things if we even attempted to update the pedals, hence the midi adapter as a compromise for the older pedals.

I don't have a DMC yet; I've just been researching controllers for my C4. I was hoping to use the multi-jack for an expression pedal. So if USB cables are a crapshoot, would it be better to get either the ghost adapter or SA's adapter?

for the disaster gen 3 controllers, you just need the dongle they sell on their site for $10, and a usb A to mini B cable.

Yeah the Aftershock can't switch presets like that. You have the physically select what you want that's only 6 slot or 128 variations of the 6 if using a controller. If you’re looking to be able to switch presets maybe the ultrawave would the way you want. I agree I don't the way the don't update the software. Granted it may be a memory thing, but still I think a V2 of the Lunar and Aftershock are in order.

disaster area controllers multijack with the previous explained connections and programming, or the SA midi dongle will allow PC messages to access the 6 presets on the older pedals. The green presets in this method will actually ignore the physical knob positions and load as true presets. Neuro Hub unfortunately won’t allow for this.

Hey, I hooked my Atlas up to a laptop for the first time (iPad app doesn't work over USB) and wish I hadn't. What I wanted to do was save a version of the my favorite, bass 1176, with my threshold, gain, blend settings. Also, verify that the sidechain HPF was set at 40Hz. What happened was, the blend knob stopped working: when it's all the way counterclockwise, instead of giving me a fat, close-in studio tone, it gives me nothing, and moving the knob clockwise fades into a tone that was probably what I was "blending in" before. It's like a volume knob for an uncompressed sound. I'm sure I messed something up.

So I clicked the button to reset the patches to the presets (which is near Save and Load). It doesn't fix the problem. The blend knob continues working in this new, not-good way. I am disconnecting it from the computer and for tomorrow's gig I'll use the dual band comp.

You sure it's not blending channel 1&2? nothing plugged into 2 so you don't hear anything?

Thank you again for the clarification. So when working with the older series one pedals you have 3 options, the physical control, no controller needed. Attached to neuro hub, can be attached to scenes but no preset selection or attached to midi via the adapter you can now select presets but lose the pedal in a scene because now it's not attached to the neuro hub, is this correct?

Pretty much. That’s the gist of it.

I'll screenshot what I have. Then I'll see if a factory reset will fix it. If not, I'll put the screenshot up here. I'm sure I clicked something by accident and since it's my first time using the app, I don't understand what I'm seeing.

The good news is, I used the bass dual band comp for the gig and boy did it sound great!

we'll get this figured out with you one way or another. How are you connecting the Atlas, & to what type of desktop? Asking because a mere connection to the Neuro editor shouldn't change the behavior of any knob. Are you using a USB Hub in between the pedal and computer? If so, could you try a direct connection? unfortunately USB hubs have been linked to connectivity problems, in some cases.

Collider Preset recall question: I've successfully set up my midi controller to scroll through my collider presets via cc messages. I just tried doing so with PC messages in the hopes that this way the on/off states of the two engines will be recalled, too. I made sure I am sending to the right channel, and I'm sending through the hub via trrs - the hardware setup is the same as in my cc-message setup. Nothing changes in the collider when I scroll through the PC numbers. No led blink that confirms it received any midi, and no presets are changed or on-off states changed. Am I missing something here?

The Neuro Hub will not send PC messages to connected devices.

Ohhh hmmmm.. ok yeah I do remember something like that. I became hopeful reading in the manual:
"All 128 available User Presets are accessible with an external MIDI controller. MIDI controllers can be connected via either the 5-Pin DIN (MIDI IN) jack on the side of the pedal, the USB port at the top of the pedal, or through a Neuro Hub, which connected to the CONTROL INPUT at the top of the pedal. All 128 User Presets can be recalled with the corresponding MIDI program change (PC) messages. "

I did read into that, that I can send PC messages through the hub to the collider.

Yeah. You need to send a CC with the preset number you want. Sorry about that. There is a reason Jesse did it this way back when....now I can't remember why! CCs do work fine.

The Hub should still be passing any received PC messages out on its MIDI Thru port (when set to Thru in global settings) so connecting Hub to the Collider’s 5-pin MIDI in port should allow PC access to its onboard presets.

This may have to be done without collider being hooked up to Hub via TRRS so as to avail any conflict with scene changes, but it might all work together provided that your PCs intended for your Collider aren’t changing Hub presets too (i.e. if hub and collider are set to different channels and pc messages are only being sent on collider’s channel, this dual setup might work ok).

I own 2 Reflex expression pedals.

Questions .....

1. Do they not show up in the neuro desktop editor?

2. How are you supposed to change the midi channel they are on?

3. Do source audio pedals respond better through the expression on the hub, or Midi.

opportunity has come along to buy a used Morningstar MC6 pro from bandmate....

Can anyone kindly confirm:

1. will I need the SA dongle for C4 and UW pedals? Reference vids seem to show the MC6 plugging direct into pedals in chain

2. can I control both above 2 SA pedals and Ableton midi mapping? Again, vids seem to indicate this is possible

3. Do I need a Neuro Hub? (to achieve 2. above)

Thanks!

I use mine via the hub, but that really has nothing to do with a Hub at that point it’s just getting one midi line out to several so you could use any midi splitter or even the multi ports

The pro is extremely flexible

MC6 Pro has one USB host port so can host one pedal natively.

To control both, a dongle will be necessary for the second pedal, or the Hub that could then access both (and store Scenes that include both pedals).
