Can someone help me understand how to control the Ladder filter? It seems to fight me searching for the right juicy quack… I am no stranger to envelope filters, and I get along great with the Spectrum, but I am having a hard time with the Artifakt's Ladder controls, what exactly they all do, and how they interact with each other.

Are you using just the pedal knobs or the full editor?

Load up the "ladder snap bass" preset which is nice and based on one of Quatschmacher's

Then controls are….

It takes a good bit of patience and persistence to really get a handle on each of the effect types in the Artifakt, especially the Ladder Filter since you do have to use two effect blocks to get it all happening. I found that sampling a wide range of a particular effect and studying what others have done really helps me to get started into understanding just how much control is available in pretty much any SA pedal and the more recent offerings have incredible depth.

The video above is well worth watching, perhaps more than once as I have needed to. I still revisit Zach's deep dive into the C4 too.

Partially a tangential thought started by to your post @bassbrad rather than a response.

The nice thing about artifakt is you can take the preset and use it like a regular pedal.
The C4 you can't as much.
But it's a real strength of the more knobs format …

Gah, i tried Quatschmachers to try for a week or so and the more I think about it the more I need to buy one

I really dig the added access and functionality for the control set on the Artifakt, I would welcome this expanded control set on some of the older pedals especially the Distortion trio.

One of those - please talk me out of getting a Collider. I already have the Nemesis ( non ADT) and Ventris, Would complete all the SA types (except for True Spring) of course I do not have any soundblox.

Question 2 of the week: Forget about the sequencing and subdivisions and stutter any body has luck with getting a Meris Ottobit Jr. Bit-Crusher tones or something along those lines. I really should investigate the Crusher mode more.

Glitch sends my imrpovisation new music band nuts always. And sometimes the audience as well. The randomness and the cutting glitch sequence just wakes every body up.

"Am I fully sourced?"

It should all be in there and more. That is why we included the ladder filter. :)

Using just the knobs, I got a nice, vowel-sound quack at these settings:
Filter: 1:30 pm
Mix: 9pm
Vary: 10am
Bandwidth: High
Mod: 2pm

Yep. A Lunar/Gemini/Mercury revision in this format would be awesome. You'd be able to have access to all the stuff that currently requires the editor to get to.

@rsmith601, what do you think about building in some tone filters like those found on an Alembic SF-2? It would be great to mimic the SF-2 in a pedal format effect.
can you not do that with the C4?

Mono input 1, no envelope, no distortion and use a 2 pole HPF or Low pass filter.

Pan to the other processor and you can send input there too to have dual filters like the SF-2

I guess I should try this. My favorite setting on my SF-2 is a band pass filter and a low pass filter with a little of the original signal blended in. This would require 3 parallel paths. One for each filter and one for the unprocessed signal. Can this happen with the C4? Or would I need 2 of them and a splitter/mixer?

Perfectly possible as there's a dry/wet blend on the master section. Also, you could assign one of the 4 voices to just be dry input.

Why not have a play around with it in Soundcheck?
