Look at this for LFO info:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

It's those little squggles on the Right side. You can make it do interesting stuff. BUT, the way I understand it is that if you go Hot Hand YOU are controlling the LFO.

BEF Pro is an great value, you may think you could 'get by' without the presets and extra goodies, but do yourself a favor and go PRO.

Next point, get the wireless Hot Hand. And if you are not getting it in a bundle like you mentioned, get the Hot Hand 3 so you have the option of using it with non-SA pedals. Just my two cents.

The other part of your question is "what else do you need". I think you need an distortion, Overdrive or Fuzz in front of the BEF, otherwise you are not getting the extreme Dub sounds, you will be some interesting sounds, but not as synthy as you may need. There are so many combinations, but I've found that a distortion with more mids and highs works nice.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. I am starting to really see the added value in PRO. Though I am not entirely clear... it means that the non pro version has no LFO? Or that it just lacks the user adjustable option? But i guess I will have to try it for myself to really hear the difference.
(sorry for sounding like a newb... I know I have serious lack of knowledge here :)

And regarding the "do myself a favour". That I would very much like to do, but my funds are very limited. I can hardly afford a second hand PRO right now... and you are right I will need the distortion as well as the hot hand 3, but I have to save up for that first :)

Non Pro has the LFO, that's the essence of the BEF, the Pro gives you wave and tap tempo options. Pro also give you an expression pedal input to further manipulate things like a Wah pedal does.

Edit: my bad, I tought I was hearing LFO sweeps and there were just at a fixed rate, but I guess in the non-pro it's all just responding to bass signals? Still unsure, but just another reason to GO PRO

I thought that a LFO was what made envelop filters and phasers have that sweeping oscillator sound.

I knew I shouldn't have commented on a pedal I don't have. oops
phasers: yes, ENVELOPE filter: no :)

LFO = Low Frequency Oscillator, it produces a continuous wave.

An envelope filter is controlled by the volume envelope of the input signal. But filters can also be controlled by LFO's (or Sample/Hold, motion, voltages,... or a combination)

I think I got it now. What mixed me up was the BEF has Phasers on it.

I am about 99% sure, I will buy the Bass Envelope Filter Pro.
But for budget reasons I cannot afford the Hot Hand 3 at the moment. So I am thinking of buying the Hot Hand Wired version as it is way way cheaper.
So my question is what will I be missing? Apart from the obvious wireless freedom and the option to adjust sensitivity and range...
Basically, if I attached wire and broken both knobs on the Hot Hand 3 would it be the same as the wired version? :))

just wireless freedom. It comes with a long extention cord so you can route it up your arm or whatever, so it's not that big of deal. I didn't realized it was only $20.

I only have the original hot hand, but the way I understand it is that the controls on the HH3 are more for the expression (TRS) output, when the HH3 is connected to a SA pedal it is adjusted by the SA pedal, but the manual says you can activate the controls if you want depending on what output mode you select?? I got kind of lost there. So does anyone know if there are advantages to the extra HH3 controls when using the Sensor Out to a SA pedal?

By default the knobs will only affect the TRS or expression output. This can be used to control expression on nearly any non-SA pedal, such as Line6 or EHX, in addition to any SA pedal using the expression input. Definitely worth it.

Well, digging into the HH3 manual, they mention that not all SA pedals have HH controls built in. I'm assuming that these are the Soundblox2 pedals (that seems strange). So with a Pro model, you should be A-OK with a wired HH.

The Wired Hot Hand only works with the SENSOR INPUT on our Soundblox pedals. The biggest advantage of the HH3 is that it has the 1/4 inch TRS output, which gives you the flexibility of using it with other brand pedals. It also has a 3rd axis of control.

Certainly worth more than it's weight on gold. It's am understatement to say that things tiny. Well worth the extra money.
