Source Audio Spectrum Inteligent Filter!!!

New owner here, haven't really played with effects for years. Also back into playing gigs after a LONG hiatus.. I needed an envelop filter for a covers band. Don't know how but found the Spectrum as I saw a demo showing its octave capabilities which would be a bouns. I knew you can hook it up with your computer and phone but in all honesty didn't really know what that meant. Got the spectrum, first 2 presets.. twiddling the knobs, its exactly what I need cool. Hook up the mac, MY GOSH...!! After a little while worked out was going on with the all the presets, the web library, saving patches etc... You could say I'm a fan!!

This this is my first "Is there anything for this... " type post. My covers band is going to cover The Weekends "Blinding Lights", definitely a cool 80's synth driven song. I'm not looking for an exact sound as the huge bass synth part but just something that would fit in OK. I also realize I don't have the C4 :). I was thinking Octave (to get the low b string notes as I play a 4), fuzz and a little bit of resonance filter. Anyways Ive already found some community patches that I will try during rehearsal, Chase Synth and I also like Simpler Octave and I added some Octave fuzz to that.

Has anyone come across anything that might be suitable :). The sound in intro and chorus (as linked in the video) has an edgier sound which is what Im looking for.

If not, no worries!! I will continue going through the online community seeing what sparks my interest. Glad to be part of the family!!

I can see myself in the future, learning about different filters etc, and creating my own stuff from what I hear but I dont have those skills yet.

We created this pedal and the Neuro ecosystem with you in mind :)

I searched the Neuro library for "blinding" here are the results:

You have chosen wisely..jpg

Have no fear Spectrum has all the goods for some delicious synth tones. If I were chasing that sound I would send voice 1 to the envelope, Oct1 & 2 both to an octave down messing with different filtering settings and Processor pan to 1 or 2 send one to the Filter and the other to dist+filter . Don't activate the Distortion but sometimes just routing signal there has a positive effect on octaves. On the Filter start with 2 pole and see which has the best shape .
See how close that gets you.

THanks for taking the time to reply!! I'm going to play with that, hopefully I understand how to get to that, I need to understand how the voices and routing work, but I will get there!

Thanks! I checked em out but they are for the C4. Great thing with the editor I can see how that patch is constructed even though I dont have the C4. Thank you Mr Source Audio! :hyper:
Mr. Source Audio. I think I have never been called that, but it certainly fits!

99% of pedal users have no idea how useful the Neuro tools are. Welcome to the wide 1%!!

Yes, many C4 presets can work on the Spectrum by looking at the editor. Pro move on your part!

You are welcome, SA pedals are pretty deep but the deeper you dive the better the results and the more fun to be had. I love that about Neuro also the shared sounds are so often brilliant and something I wouldn't have come up with on my own.

Hey y'all though I'd give you an update on a number of rehearsals I've had with the new Spectrum.

Thanks for all the feedback, specifically I took some great suggestions and started trying to create my own sound specifically for the song Blinding Lights by The Weekend. In the end it came down to what I originally found the community preset, Chase Synth, and just adjusted that to have a pretty killer sound, not an exact tone but exactly what I was looking for. I also took an Simpler Octave community preset with added Fuzz by me along to rehersal as my no 2, a little less edgy. But my first sound with the Chase Synth ended up being it! Band could not believe how fat the sound was and it needed to be. They were saying it sounds exactly like the recording... well I knew it wasn't but was happy for the feedback. Sounds so good.

Where I was pumped though is I had all the 6 pedal accesable presets, replaced with community presets that I had tweaked, except the original Tron on preset 1, to see it that suited a cover song. Tron was perfect, so good live in a band room. That would have been all good enough, but through the week I found and used "Nice Chorus Fretless bt" for some Classic 80s Journey songs (didn't even tweak that one) and "Classic Octaver" for some Stevie Wonder songs for just general boss oc-2 type stuff.

I also leave a Darkglass Micro tubes just to dirty my Musicman clean tone a little. I left that on with the specturm and I thought it sounded even better.

So right now... this is a winner. I just can't believe where pedals have come after me ignoring the tech all these years. Its also fun haha.

I know this is going to sound self-serving, but I am going to say it. :)
No other pedal company has the combination of huge library of easily accessed community sounds that can be adapted and saved for your specific use. We are the only small pedal company placing huge bets like this. So glad it worked for you as we intended!

Yes I love it!! Thanks!! Gotta say, when I got the Spectrum no way did I think I would have a chorus, let alone in my top 6! No way do I have the skills to pull that off myself.

Yes, although it is primarily an envelope filter it can also be used as a phaser, chorus, fuzz, overdrive and octaver. Pretty versatile pedal! I only wish more than 6 presets could be saved on the pedal itself, without having to buy an extra midi controller. Because of the versatility 6 presets is just not enough.

You can save up to 128 sounds on the Spectrum but you need some sort of MIDI device to access them. The C4 and Spectrum were of the next gen pedals with that capability.

Earlier SA pedals like the distortion and modulation trios are limited to 6 sounds. For those pedals you need a Neuro Hub to save additional sounds.

I'm having an issue with my Spectrum/DMC/SA midi adapter. I can get the DMC to switch presets, but the small LED does not flash when a preset is changed, and I can not get it to switch in bypass mode, unless I bypass on the Spectrum before switching. So if I have the Spectrum on, and switch presets on the DMC, the pedal remains on, and if the Spectrum is off and I switch presets, the pedal remains off till activated on the Spectrum. I'm trying to get it to do the latter with every preset change. I have spoken to SA and Disaster Area about this, but have not gotten any resolution. Thoughts?

So you are sending MIDI CC message 103?

It was working the way I wanted it to, using the Ghost cable, but the DMC kept freezing up. So I bought the SA midi adapter and I'm using that. It hasn't worked right since. I'm not sure if I'm sending CC 103, I was under the impression that just setting the DMC in preset mode, to always bypassed would do the trick.

And so you made 6 presets easily available on your small format pedals.
I don't know any small format pedals from other manufacturers that save/make available 6+ presets. I think you did good
Danke dir!!

Here is a little shot of Neuro 3.0 and it is clear that you have done very well too!! :)
