Source Audio Spectrum Inteligent Filter!!!

It was working the way I wanted it to, using the Ghost cable, but the DMC kept freezing up. So I bought the SA midi adapter and I'm using that. It hasn't worked right since. I'm not sure if I'm sending CC 103, I was under the impression that just setting the DMC in preset mode, to always bypassed would do the trick.
I assume the DMC is programmed specifically to either send CC103 for bypassed or CC104 for engaged when you’ve selected either the Spectrum or C4 in the DMC pedal menu, though you’d have to ask him about that. I haven’t set up a Source Audio with a DMC except using the USB Host so it’s possible something is off there unless you changed the right settings when moving over to the SA adaptor. If you have a DMC with multi-jack, have you tried just connecting the Spectrum directly that way? You wouldn’t need the SA MIDI adaptor at all and it could help troubleshoot whether the adaptor is the issue.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll try that!

Also worth playing around with the “Preset Recall State” within each preset in the Neuro app. This should only affect the way things operate when sending PC rather than CC messages, but it’s possible somehow that is now what is happening (something changes so the DMC is sending PCs instead)

Has anyone had any luck using the Octave up on a Source Audio Spectrum? I have been trying to recreate the sound that Rocco uses in Tioga Pass but the octave up just sounds terrible in my Spectrum. Even my Sub'n'Up sounds better.
Yeah the "octave up" you are hearing is just his clean bass tone maybe with some reverb and a bit of modulation. The rest of the time (the parts with the big subs) he is using an octave-down effect.

As far as octave-up goes though- the octave-up sounds of the Spectrum are definitely a different type of voice than the TC pedal, the Spectrum doesn't really do that traditional organ-like digital polyphonic octave-up sound like the TC or EHX POG. The C4 can get a little closer, but still more a more synthy voice

I don’t have this pedal yet, but acquisition is imminent!

I am aiming to have the ability to switch between auto wah type of functionality and using an expression pedal for the sweeping of variables. (Similar to the feature on 3 leaf’s Wonderlove & Chromatron)

I’ve uncovered that the external control will connect to expression pedal, and it looks like you press the button on the back to activate it. All of that would be great, but I’m curious how one differentiates between using the button to toggle to presets 4-6, and activating expression pedal. I’m also curious how one knows when exp. is activated or not.

Am I on the right track? Anyone using it this way?

Any help is appreciated, especially because I can’t experiment until I get one on the board.

From what I’m reading, I hope it’s soon!

thx

You can also switch banks by holding down the footswitch, there is a global setting in OPTIONS for a long or shorter hold. That is also where the expression pedal calibration is incase you use one that is opposite of normal like the Zoom FPO2M one I use.
I suggest putting the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] on your phone or device and take a gander at all the available options as there is a lot of info there. Perusing the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] is always a must with any Source Audio pedal no matter how simple they look on the outside, lots of very pleasant surprises to be found.

This is what I suggest.

Check out the TRON and Dumpling effects on the toggle switch. Both are set up for envelope (auto-wah) control. See which one you like better.

Then, connect up an expression pedal to the control port. Ask the nice folks here for a few Neuro presets to check out where expression control is part of the preset. Download the Neuro software (Desktop is easier) and see what you like. You can then burn this to the "Thrust" position. This will give you what you want and also start your learning process. Note that expression control is not something you generally turn on and off. It is part of a preset. I dont remember what the default it, but it might be frequency? When you are comfortable, you will see that EXP can control almost anything in this pedal. :) Others might want to add on to this...

I think that makes sense. And I have downloaded Neuro, and browsed a bit, including reviewing presets and adding them on my After Shock.

It sounds like If expression is part of the preset, then the pedal is active. Organizing the six presets on the switch could give me options I could switch to that would include whether they’re “auto” or “pedal” on a given variable.

I guess that also means some variables could be acting in auto mode in response to attack, while another in the same preset could be defined by exp. Pedal.

While it feels slightly like deep waters, it also looks incredible flexible!

Thanks!

Can’t wait to report back.

Sousaphone through a Spectrum should be very interesting.

Agreed!

I’m in the process of renovating my board, which has delivered some good research. I don’t know how I’ve missed this pedal for so long. Trying not to set my hopes too high, but I was about to send a different one out for mods, and thought I’d take one more look.

Started some test drives, but this one should tie the room together.

Is there a way to save and select more than six presets, e.g. on stage? I seem to remember something about midi?

Also - has anyone managed to create a good replica of the DOD FX25? I love the little bass solo section in RHCP's Power of Equality.
Spectrum has 128 internal presets when using MIDI. If you only have 1 SA pedal, then use our MIDI adapter:

So, how does one make the octave up voice sound like more than just a buzz? I can't seem to get it to respond to any filters.
The octave up on the Spectrum and the C4 are based on analog octave up sounds that are essentially distortion based, you might check that you are setting the right path to get the filter to trigger.
