Source Audio UltraWave ~ Catch the Wave

Quick question regarding the ultra wave...for me the volume of different patches varies wildly. Any recommendations on how to more or less equalize the volume level between patches?
Thanks
Rick
As I save each new sound I compare them to keep them at unity level, I do the same thing on all my SA pedals.

@Proton Lenny @rsmith601 To add to what @GMC stated while the SA pedals may not be 100% dead on with the analog pedals they do get very close between 90-95% in many cases, closer than most folks have the ears or equipment to distinguish if we are being honest. This is true of all modelling equipment on the market not just Source Audio, they will all fall a bit short in a side by side comparison. What I love is that the SA pedals give me the tools to take those approximations and make them my very own and pack a whole truckload in one box.
Looking at the circuit schematic for the original B:assMaster pedal, it's looks like it's a two transistor model (think gated fuzz, like a Titan II or Mastotron) with 4 added silicon diodes for symmetrical clipping...then the signal is passed through a transformer. All that's before we get into the switching / tone controls. So there's a lot going on with this pedal, a lot more than usually found in a fuzz pedal.
On the Ultrawave, I'm guessing two completely different models / compression / EQ set up on either channel. Then using one of the knobs mapped to the "Balance" control to blend between the two different sounds. This is probably served best with an external expression, allowing compression and tone control for the other two knobs (level and grit are always a must for the other 2 controls).
Channel 1, I'm guessing a gated diode model / 7 (or noise gate applied to hard clip model /2). No multiband required (band 1).
Channel 2, your "Brassmaster switches up/dn bb" patch sounded close to me. Nice work #bassbrad. Using your choice of Octave Fold / 6, sounded good. However, I got more mileage out of the One band (No Split) or the 2 Band -1 (100hz).
I think the B:assmaster and the various expanded clones currently available (calling one of your newer vid #ProtonLenny :D) like the Hiero BEAD have a massively expanded tonal pallet and I think realistically, the Ultrawave will only be able to approximate them across multiple patches. I think it's also possible that we end up creating something that has a different take but more of what we are looking for in a B:assmaster fuzz.

OK, I've posted "GMC B:assmaster & Gated Muff" patch user my Community username of gazzajagman.
What I've done is taken #Bassbrad's excellent "Brassmaster swtiches up/dn bb" patch. Split the channels and moved it over to Channel 2. It's an exact copy. I've assigned the Treble control to "balance". This allows the mix/blending between channel 1&2. This only works with the "Routing Option" set to "Mono->Stereo->Mono". If you have this set to anything else...this patch won't work.
Listening to #ProtonLenny's Vid of the Heiro BEAD fuzz, some of the tamer / more trad settings were reminiscent of one my patches. So, I took my "GMC OD Muff Gated Fuzz" patch settings and manually copied these into Channel 1. Here comes the fun bit. This patch has a morph option between a heavy Muff Overdrive (IMO) and a gated Muff fuzz. I've assigned the "Morph" control to "Sustain" knob.
Turn the Treble knob fully right and you have the BassBrad's patch. Pull it back a bit and you are blending in my Muff and Gated patch. Use the "Sustain" knob and you are morphing between a Muff Overdrive and a Gated Fuzz on Ch1. Turn the "treble" knob fully closed (left) and you have the pure Muff OD / Gated Fuzz options.
That's 3 really distinct and useful sounds in one patch...all controlled from the 4 knobs on the device...pretty rad...as #ProtonLenny would say. It's like my 3 most used bass synth drives in one patch. With no need for an expression pedal or external controls / Neural Desktop. I think that covers similar ground to some of the BEAD fuzzes and then adds some more.
Please tell me what you think!

Can’t wait to get home to download this one and try it. Sounds great.

@GMC That is tremendous hit! I love being able to select and then shade between the sound textures, this may become a patch I use a lot.

@GMC I was inspired by your creation and decided to try my hand at a morph/mix creation and failed miserably but shall persevere in my Charlie Brown and Pooh Bear way eventually.

To allay my bruised ego I did share one of my preamp creations for Fretless Bass that sounds pretty good on others too.

I've been spending time with my new Spectrum and have shared a few sounds for that so far too.

Downloaded. Amazing job to both of you. I didn’t get to spend much time with it but what I did hear I really liked. I have built a clone of the Malekko B:ASSMaster and while I haven’t ABd it yet my initial thoughts are it comes very close. I really like the option of being able to pan all the different voices. It’s amazing how much this one preset can do. Great job and thanks to all of you that contribute to the Neuro community. I know I’m not the only one that gets frustrated trying to make presets. It’s nice to be able to just download and tweak and play. And Thank you SA for such a great pedal / platform to work with. Technology is great.

Finally got this ordered. Wondering about pedal order/routing.

<=Coll=Gem=UW=AS=C4<-

stereo routing w stereo DI available. Once I get some oct sorted out of the C4, i wanna try dual mono till UW, then switch to stereo through the last two.

im really hoping I can get some shoring up of the upper range of the NS cello using the UW.

Ok thanks. Never used that on my Spectrum. Not sure how that would work. Say you want the compressor always on. Then you have to program the compressor on output 1 for all 6 presets on the pedal and program another effect on output 2? And then you use one cable to input 1 and two cables on the outputs? But then you have another pedal with two inputs after that or use two amps. Not sure how practical that will be.

I go mono in. Then i have lets say a clean channel 1 with compression and a distortion channel 2 with/without comp (as you like). I go stereo out. From the outs i go into a A/B switch (A in, B in and Y out). This way i can switch the channels as i like. And this way you can have 12(!) direct accessible presets without using midi. I never ever will have midi on my board.

How does this work? Not understanding how you will switch between 12 different presets. Are you using gHost cable and a switching pedal?

The pedal already has 6 user patch locations accessible via the toggle and holding the foot switch to change between green and red. @XP2aficionado is then using an aby pedal to switch between L/R. He is using the Mono In, Stereo Out routing option.

& @XP2aficionado never ever say "never ever" I used to think the same way about MIDI.

You could assign one of the knobs to "Blend" which blends the two channels. Then you could access the 2nd channel on each patch without needing further hardware or complication. You could add a Source Audio Dual Expression pedal to the TRRS port and assign "Chanel Blend" to the expression on each patch. They you can wobble the pedal to wobble between the two channels. Nicer and more control than a A/B switcher. You could put a heavy gated fuzz on Ch1 and a Muffy Overdrive on Ch1...then blend between them. I've done this with a few Ultrawave patches. I did one patch that morphs on each channel and blends between channels...that's effectively 4 patches in one.

@GMC You must do a lesson on that morph-ing technique you clever fellow for the rest of us plodders (or for this plodder) and all my betters.
Pretty please in the spirit on the Holidaze.

Admitting my crime: I've tried to lift a couple of your creations and always seem to mess them up in the process.

Yea. What he said. I am getting lost and have the feeling it’s going to take a while to figure out just what can be done with this.
And then I tried to think about what would happen if I also had a C 4 and or a delay and now I have a headache.

Source Audio pedals especially the C4 and Ultrawave have so much going on it takes a while to grok,
particularly for a shallow minded guy such as I. It is a huge part of the fun and hidden value imho.

Hi Rick, it's a fantastic pedal for sure. It's capable of a lot of different tones, many are surprisingly wild and aggressive. However gentleness and subtlety are there in bucket loads if you know where to look. You will need access to the editor so that you can choose trial a load of different pre-sets and see what you like and what works for you. I would look for a simple overdrive, a simple fuzz and good solid compressor first, before any of the deeper features.

/\ /\ /\ This is where I would start. These are single voice patches without any morph settings. They will help you learn where the different distortions live and how they work. I've also published a few patches too under the name of Gazzajagman, mine tend to be several voices blended via the morph control or blend control or sometimes an expression pedal. From the Source Audio pre-sets, I would also look up the snappy compressor...it's very good and easy to dial in. I use a variation of this pre-set myself, but with an expression pedal blend with an overdrive.
Please feel free to holla for any further or specific assistance, we love to help out here.
Happy New Year Everyone,

QQ - I downloaded the Utrawave preset file and tried to load backup the ZIP into the Neuro desktop and it appeared to work but no presets appeared on my pedal (same factory six). I downloaded the individual preset file and tried to import a preset. It seemed to work, but again no presets showed up on my pedal (same factory 6). What am I doing wrong here? Going a bit crazy which is not good on New years eve! :)

Have you just tried loading the individual presets using the neuro app and the cloud?
