Southampton Pedals show some love thread!!

Had an hour of free time today so i slapped together a bit of an experimenting rig.
The rig was
Fender PJ with EMG Geezers and Chrome flats into
TU-2 > Diamond bass comp JR > Full size TC spark > ATE BE > Iron Ether Oxide Fuzz> Broughton Terraformer >
Ampeg PF500
Firstly build quality is excellent, like every other SH pedal I've bought. Knobs turned very smoothly, Switches felt good and sturdy, jacks and plug were solid and straight.
First thing you notice when starting to play with this thing is how the LEDs function and how easy it is to tell exactly what the pedal is doing. Blue for the active channel then it switches to red if the drive is engaged and stays red from channel to channel as long as the drive is on. A small thing in the over all picture but it makes life easy and shows the thought that went into the pedal.
I set the pedals up so i could see what kinda flexibility the pedal offered a single bass set up. With the spark set up to push the ATE and the ATE set up to push the IE oxide and the Brought on Terraformer. The overdrive on the pedal itself has a really nice range of drive from full on to full off, you get a bit of sizzle or full on unapologetic OD, However both can be cleaned up nicely if you lighten your touch or back off on the volume on your bass.
Adding a clean boost by the spark into the ATE added more volume and a touch more driven sound, Adding more drive to the spark add even more drive to the ATE. Pretty much what you would expect from a Spark into a drive pedal.
Next up was the ATE into the IronEther Oxide pedal. Clean boosting the oxide with the ATE gave more volume and a bit more craziness to the pedal where when i added drive it added noticeable warm wooliness in the signal.
With the ATE into the Broughton Terraformer Drive you get pretty much what you'd expect from either a Boost or a drive into another drive pedal with the boost adding more volume and squeezing a bit more out of the Broughton drive.
All that to say, This pedal plays really nicely with other dirt type pedals. Its a great piece of utility. Offering your Signal as is, Your signal with some drive, Your signal boosted or your signal boosted with drive. If you just wanted something to compensate for switching basses. Those clean channels are great but now with the drive in the mix it offers so many more options from the same box.
The only real negative i can pick out so far is the that foot switches are close together but that's a casualty of form. The only way to really beat that is a larger enclosure that also comes with its downsides.
I really think people are going to like this one a lot. It's a quality piece with a lot of function offered up.

Congrats to the Southampton crew! Oddly the Indy dream is the one i'm missing. Still use my Ictineo and Utility knife all the time. That utility knife is just such a d^&n fine pedal. After the PDCH19 auctions, i'm going to have to look into getting an Indy dream

I got my first Southampton pedal today! NuPD-Southampton 5th Gear v1 As evidenced by the post two posts back, these are tough to find.

Nice. I was wondering who snagged that one on reverb. It popped up in my feed after I snagged one from mrwood a few posts back. I like it more than the v2 for my uses. Great pedal...
So last night was first rehearsal with new Fifth Gear and Broughton Messenger. The combination was great, the Messenger very punchy and clear and modern sounding (in a good way).
Running the 5G w low gain always on. My guitarist said I needed to stop buying pedals and stop right there, my tone was perfect.
Also am loving my U.K., great to have a pedal that sounds great with any setting, don't have to spend any time wondering how to make it sound good.

I'm gassing for an Utility Knife for a while and despite I have everything I would ever need on my H9, I miss the simplicity of pedals like this.
How do you guys like it? Do you use it in front of your amp or in the FX loop?

In front of the amp. I only use FX loops if I have a preamp that I want to use instead of my amps preamp and then everything goes through that.
The H9 can do anything but I had a lot of trouble making it produce just simple Modulation sounds. I love the UK because it’s just so simple.
How is everyone using their 5th gear? I just grabbed one and have been using it off my board (ODB, VT, Rusty Box) and on its own as a boost/drive to my amp so I don't have to lug everything out and plug it all in. Thinking about adding it before the ODB though for a "floor" level gain to start the rest of the fun gain stages. Does everyone crank the volume knob and turn everything else off or what?
