Maybe not so blatantly for the most part, but when the US news crew covering the event started breathlessly gushing about the commemorative bottles of water they'd been given (yes, really), things shifted decidedly toward the "promotional."

Didn't get any of that in the live stream I watched.

I think I noticed two occasions, where one of the hosts mentioned "If you want to have a go, our email is now open" .

I was totally fine with that. It was just casually mentioned, and made the whole event seem inclusive (which it clearly isn't, for most of the population, and their actual client base isn't waiting around for some infomercial to let them know tickets are on sale).

Branson 's event just felt like a hard sell, shambolically executed, from a media point of view (the flight itself seemed to go flawlessly).

They should have booked me to direct the media, I'd have had rows of 60s NASA-style CRT monitors and spinning mag tape reels lining the walls, and the mission commander and his or her subordinates on a Star Trek bridge but with steampunk consoles. Can't beat mashing up technologies. And at random points the presenter would say "you cannot change the laws of physics".

Happy Anniversary to the Apollo 11 moon landing! (July 20, 1969):hyper: Do you remember where you were when that happened?
