Completely understood. Yeah, it does suck. I wonder where or if they'll get the funds to do the repairs. I think there was a move to close Arecibo a year or three ago. I hope that doesn't happen.
Even if it weren't August in the South, with our daily/nightly cloudbursts and storms, I doubt I'd be able to pull the 11pm-4am meteor shift anyway. 
Fortunately, driving to work in pre-dawn hours (as we used to do in the Before Times), we've caught sight several random meteors from time to time. Always nifty!

I saw a pretty good one 3 days ago....dropped in vertically right down to the trees on the horizon. It left a decent trail but gone in a flash!
I was just on my way here to share that story.
I spent a couple hours reading about that ship, the company who made it, and the competitors.
Did you catch any of the test flights? Amazing.
I appreciate how ambitious these companies are to be on the bleeding edge of space exploration.

I love the look of that Dream Chaser ship, and I'm there is a place for it among all the initiatives. But that project has been going on for a long time. I would have expected real results already.
I also would have liked to see the X-37B in the mix. It was a project that was started, scrapped, then recovered, and now used exclusively by the Air/Space Force. It already has logged many years of travel. I would think it would be very cost effective to apply that same design to other uses.

I would guess that there are "reasons" why X-37B technology isn't shared.
I also wish I would see more Derivative work. For example, Elon likes to Make New Stuff. Like with Starship. And the Lunar Lander design. I hope I hear that he is able to derive from qualified vehicles - when building new vehicles.
Like the Crew Dragon. We just succeeded in an awesome milestone. I hope they can derive that capsule for Other things. Can't there be some reuse between what is in that capsule design - and what they build for the lander? I know they have different goals and function, but hopefully, they are able to reuse pieces to move along at the fastest pace possible.
I never understood why the first return to the moon wasn't based on incremental improvements to the Apollo program. It seems like we keep losing intellectual property and keep starting over. Hope I'm just not enlightened.

I would think it's more likely that what can't be shared is - the experiments Inside of it. But that base space plane design - I'd have a hard time believing it can't be reused for several purposes - at a very low cost.
The X-37B can stay aloft for over a year and change orbits to accomplish it's goals... whatever they are. There's probably tech there that is kept close to the vest. It's roots go back to the shuttle (and Dyna Soar) as does the Dream Chaser. So there has been evolution along that path.
As for the Apollo program, money and public opinion cooled those jets. There was a kind of "been there, done that" feeling after a couple of landings and the Vietnam War was going on and consuming massive quantities of dollars. Plus, the US has never been good at making and sticking to long term plans and budgets.
