SpaceX and other space stuff

Full video of flight. Taken from rover located about 211 feet (64.3 meters) away with the mast mounted Mastcam-Z camera system.

Looks like, while hovering, the body rotated about 180 degrees and some left-right translation happened. Looked intentional, not sure. Might find out during press conference.

I'm just geekin' LOL.

I read earlier that the 180 degree turn was intentional, not sure about the lateral movement. Thanks for posting that!
 
Thought this was interesting. The takeoff gif was enhanced showing the dust kicked up by the rotor wash, then blown away in a breeze.


Someone mentioned in Nasa Spaceflight forum that the next 4 test flights must be done in the next 30 days. Not sure what happens to the helo after that, but hopefuly it will just stay in service with the rover until it (helo) dies. Next test flight no earlier than 22 Apr.

This is because it's tying up the Perseverance rover. They need the rover to stay in place for the video and maybe communications. It can't perform it's mission if it's stationary. Ingenuity is only meant to be a proof-of-concept test article. The copter team was only given 30 days to test it. It'll make another 4 or 5 flights that'll test more capabilities (speed, altitude and distance) and then it's done.

Awww poor little thing - I was hoping it would get to scope out exposed layers in crater walls and such - but I guess that's for the next one, now that the trail has been broken, so to speak.
