Special Edition Build off - Build em if ya got em

I have all my parts.

I should be able to get at least one of my builds done.

I am one of the fortunate people that has kept my job through this.

The price I pay for that is they gave me a Data Center Move to manage, and it's got some stupid aggressive timelines, so I'm working more now that I ever have in the last 10 years.

You guys got me inspired to start one more build. Not taking part in this officially, because I have more work at the moment than in years. My active building years were between 1990-2004. Found out that I actually have almost everything for a bass at home. Neck and body woods, bridge, pup, tuners... Ordered a fretboard from a Finnish builder, to support my local guy. It has been started. One more time.

I really enjoy watching these Build-Offs. I read through every one of them, and it's great to see all the different designs and techniques that you guys are coming up with.

I have a suggestion for the next Build-Off: The R & D Mule
A bass that you make specifically to test out some crazy idea, technical or ergonomic. Not a show-off of beauty or craftsmanship. No plan to appeal to customers, or sell it, or even necessarily to play at a gig yourself. It's made to demonstrate an idea to yourself, at home.

I'm been thinking of a similar idea, but maybe a little broader: "Do something new." The idea is, some major element of the build has to be something you've never done before - an experiment. Like, if you've always done fretted, make a fretless. Or if you've always done solid body, make a hollow body. And so on.

Yeah, it could also test out a new process; a new way of building some part of the bass that you haven't done before. Something that you think may be a big benefit, but you really need to test it out before trying it on a real bass.

Yes, we did something like this in the 2017 build off

The theme was "Challenge Yourself".

The entrants were asked to build a bass in a way they haven't done in the past. Some of the possible challenges they could give themselves would be as follows:

1) Create a new design / Build a design you haven't built in the past
2) Use different materials
3) Use different building practices.

Keep the ideas coming.

Again, another good suggestion.
You probably have a mule or 2 laying around already, so it would probably be pointless for @Beej to apply peer pressure.
