An ACG-EQ-01???

Haha! I knew at least a few people would grab onto that.
Back when they were still available for purchase, I decided to buy one. Glad I did.
I also have an ACG EQ-02 I obtained secondhand, in Serendipity. It's amazing what it can do; I imagine the EQ-01 is just that much better.
One day I'm going to build something vaguely Alembic-ish, with EMG pickups and this ACG. But that's another build for another day....

This has been on my mind for a while.
Six years ago I built a pair of Thunderbird-inspired basses (original build thread here - ThunderTwins! ). One a five-string, and one an eight-string. They turned out gorgeous. They also turned out incredibly heavy, and not well balanced. Oops. They’ve been hanging on the wall ever since.
Gorgeous or not, if it’s a wall decoration, then it’s a waste.
Time for a re-birth.
Step one is to liberate the neck.

Now I’m making haste slowly by cruising the net for a preamp worthy of pairing with them. Missed out on an ACG by two hours back in December. But as the I Ching instructs: “Persistence furthers. No blame.”

It’s been a busy week, and with the work-from-home mandate my work time is smearing into my non-work time. So not much to report, but I did get a couple of hours in this evening. I cleaned up the perimeter of the body, hollowed out the electronics cavity, and chambered most of the upper half. Weight is now down to 5 pounds, which I think might be enough to glue the cap on.
Sapele machines so well, like the proverbial butter. And I just love that musky smell!

Using the two P pickups.....
Set ”A” would be the set for the E/A string, and would go to one pan pot
Set “B” would be the set for the D/G strings, and would go to another pan pot
That way you could dial in variable brightness for your ENA strains, and your DNG strings. Need to brighten up your lower end? Pan the E and a strings toward the bridge a little more. Need to fatten up your high end? Pan the D/G strings more towards the neck.
just a weird idea ...

Ummm, okay, I guess I just need to call them out - the Irwin "QuickGrip" clamps are pretty junky. That's what I get for buying cheap clamps I guess.
If I had a sixty-year-old set of rusty C-clamps, they would be worlds better than the Irwin crap.
(My Irwin bar clamps are just fine, it's just the cheap-os....)

I bought a few of the Harbor Freight clamps, actually not terrible considering how cheap they are. Good enough for light duty, but if I really want to get Medieval on some wood, it’s back to Grandpa’s rusty C clamps. I got a few with like 12” throats, what the hell was he clamping back in the Day?
