First coats of sanding sealer applied. Love the chocolatey brown glow of sapele under a finish!

I forget which finish you said you are using. With Varathane I have been sanding with Abranet up to 800 grit then using the 3M super duty polishing compound that Bruce recommended. That and some 000 and 0000 steel wool equivalent pads get a nice semigloss but it’s just as easy to hit it with swirl remover and mirror glaze after that and get all shiny like.

I was intending to do a satin/semi-gloss on this one. The finish is Deft rattlecan lacquer, not Varathane. I'm still wrestling with Varathane on that other POS build....

Some 60 grit on a belt sander should take good care of that orange peel...
